Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve availability of a network and to perform large volume data transmission by using allocated different plural sub-carrier frequencies at the time of converting information from respective terminals to optical signals and transmitting them to a base station. CONSTITUTION: The terminals 1-1 to 1-N transmit data with the other terminals through optical transmitter-receivers 2-1 to 2-N and the base station 3. The plural sub-carrier frequencies f1 and f2 -fM (N>=M) are allocated to the incoming lines (from the terminals to the base station) and one of the sub-carrier frequencies f1 to fM is allocated to the optical transmitter-receivers 2-1 to 2-N. The base station 3 is installed on a ceiling 100 and connected to a host network 4 and an fT is allocated to the base station 3 as the sub-carrier frequency. Also, the sub-carrier frequency fO is allocated to the optical transmitter-receivers 2-1 to 2-N and the base station 3 as a channel for control. In this case, the sub-carrier frequencies f1 to fM are arranged within one octave.

When the transmission request is accepted, the transmitting terminal sends the data to the optical transmitter / receiver. The optical transmitter / receiver puts data on a subcarrier frequency assigned in advance, converts the data into an optical signal, and transmits the optical signal to the base station 3. here,
A laser diode is used as a transmission light source in the optical transmitter / receiver, and overmodulation is performed at the time of modulation to cause wavelength chirping and spread the emission spectrum.

FIG. 2 shows a block diagram of the base station 3. The signal light from the optical transmitter / receiver is converted into an electric signal by the photodiode 7 through the optical filter 6. The optical filter 6 transmits only the wavelength region of the signal light and suppresses the influence of background light. The output of the photodiode 7 is the amplifier 1
It is input to the signal processing device 20 via 0. The signal processing device 20 selects, from the input signals, data to be transmitted to the upper network 4 and data to be transmitted to the terminal managed by the base station 3. The former is converted to the data format of the upper network 4 and then transmitted to the upper network 4, and the latter is subjected to signal processing so that it can be received by the optical transmitter / receiver and then output to the laser driver 15. Further, the data from the host network 4 is input to the signal processing device 20, and after the data is placed on the subcarrier frequency assigned to the base station 3, the data is input to the laser driver 15. The laser driver 15 drives the laser diode 8 based on the input signal. Here, the laser driver 15 does not overmodulate the laser diode 8.

In this method, since the RF frequency bands used by the transmission signals of the optical transmitter / receiver are different, even if the data collide with each other at the base station, the data can be separated at the RF stage. Therefore, even if a plurality of optical transmitters / receivers simultaneously transmit data, the base station can stably receive the data, and the utilization efficiency of the network can be improved. Further, since the laser diode is used as the transmission light source of the optical transmitter / receiver and the base station, a large amount of data can be transmitted.
Furthermore, since the laser diode is overmodulated and the emission spectrum is diffused, the influence of optical beat noise can be reduced.

FIG. 4 and FIG. 5 show the configurations of the optical transmitter / receiver and the optical receiver in the base station according to the present invention. Generally, in a space optical transmission system, a photodiode having a large light receiving area is used to receive as many optical signals as possible. However, if a photodiode having a large light receiving area is used, the parasitic capacitance becomes large, and the receiving sensitivity becomes low in a high frequency region.

Therefore, as shown in FIG. 4, the output of the photodiode 7 is input to a matching circuit 30 for performing matching in the RF frequency band to be received, thereby compensating for the band of the photodiode 7 and increasing the high frequency.
