2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, recording by an ink jet printer has been used in various fields because of its low noise, high speed recording, and easy multicoloring. As the ink jet recording material, high-quality paper designed so as to have high ink absorbability, coated paper having a surface coated with a porous pigment, or the like is applied. In addition, recently, a gloss type ink jet recording material having a gloss layer on the surface has been developed. Further, with the expansion of applications such as high-speed inkjet recording, high-definition recording image, and full-color recording, an inkjet recording material excellent in high-speed printing suitability has been demanded. In order to meet such a demand, it is necessary to increase the ink absorption rate, but it is clear that it is not enough to provide a recording layer using a conventional technique, for example, a pigment having a high porosity such as silica or alumina. Has become.

As a conventional technique for defining the ink absorption, the ink absorption capacity is defined (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 60-12218).
No. 8) Here, the absorbent paper is pressed against the recording paper to which the ink is attached one second later, and the maximum ink amount at which the ink does not transfer to the absorbent paper is taken as the ink absorption capacity. However, the absorption speed of the ink and the absorption capacity are not always related. In addition, when the blotter paper is pressed to see the ink transfer, the smoothness of the recording paper is also affected and the measured value itself may be unreliable. An example in which the weight of the solution absorbed in the ink receiving layer is specified (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 61-377).
No. 7), but the solution is absorbed for an excessive time of 10 seconds and the excess solution is removed to measure the amount of absorption, and it is not possible to discuss the ink absorption speed during actual recording. . There is also an example (JP-A-62-140878) in which the ink absorbency is defined by the dryness of the ink, and after the ink jet recording, the recording part is touched with a finger to measure the time when the ink does not adhere (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 62-140878) It was insufficient to evaluate chipping and high-speed printing suitability.

Here, the absorption speed means the recording accompanying the absorption of the liquid drops onto the recording surface of the ink jet recording paper by dropping a solution prepared by mixing water / diethylene glycol in a weight ratio of 70:30. It is expressed as the volume reduced per unit time rather than the volume reduction on the surface. In the present invention, a dynamic liquid absorption tester (Fibro 1100 DAT Dynamic
The measurement was performed using an absorption tester, Matsusaka Trading Co., Ltd. As a specific measuring method, 3 μl (microliter) of a droplet is dropped through a syringe by a precision liquid pump, and the dropped droplet is magnified and observed directly from the side with a video camera, and when the droplet comes into contact with the recording surface. The images were taken at intervals of 20 msec to track the volume change of the liquid droplets. The absorption speed was calculated from the volume change of the droplet from 1 second to 5 seconds after the droplet came into contact with the recording surface. In the present invention, the absorption rate was determined as described above,
The measuring device is not limited to the above as long as it can measure by the same principle.

The solution in which water / diethylene glycol is mixed at a weight ratio of 70:30, which is used for the absorption rate measurement of the present invention, is a model of the composition of a water-based ink for ink jet recording and is used in various ink jet printers. It is suitable for grasping the absorbency of water-based ink used in. Further, it has been found that the absorption speed specified in the present invention is an important characteristic especially in a printer that performs high-speed printing. When the absorption rate of the present invention is less than 100 nl / sec,
The absorption of the water-based ink is delayed, the ink overflows on the surface and bleeds, or uneven absorption occurs, and the uniformity of solid printing in image quality deteriorates. The absorption rate specified in the present invention is
It is adjusted depending on the types of the pigment and the adhesive in the recording layer and the mixing ratio of the two. Water-based inks for inkjet printers are considered to be absorbed and held in the gaps between the pigments in the recording layer and in the micropores in the pigments. Pigments with high porosity are used, and the pigments are well bonded. By controlling the amount of the adhesive so that the gaps between the pigments are not filled up and a sufficient space is formed, the absorption rate specified in the present invention can be increased.

Examples of the adhesive include proteins such as casein, soybean protein and synthetic protein, and various starches such as starch and oxidized starch,
Polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose derivatives such as carboxymethyl cellulose and methyl cellulose, styrene-butadiene copolymer, conjugated diene polymer latex of methyl methacrylate-butadiene copolymer, acrylic polymer latex, vinyl such as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer Conventionally known adhesives which are generally used for coated papers such as polymer latex are used alone or in combination. The amount of the adhesive compounded is not particularly limited, but is preferably 1 to 40% by weight, more preferably 2 to 20% by weight of the pigment.
It is adjusted in the range of about wt%. If the amount of the adhesive is small, the strength of the recording layer may be weakened, the surface may be easily scratched, and powder may drop. On the other hand, if the amount of the adhesive is large, the ink absorbency is lowered, and the desired inkjet recording suitability may not be obtained.

In addition, various auxiliaries such as a dispersant, a thickener, a defoaming agent, a colorant, an antistatic agent and a preservative used in the production of general coated paper are appropriately added. A recording layer composition composed of the above materials generally has a solid content concentration of 5 to 5.
Adjusted to about 65% by weight, basis weight of about 20-400 g / m
It is coated on a base material of about 2 in a dry weight of about 1 to 50 g / m 2 , more preferably about 2 to 20 g / m 2 . It can be coated and dried by various publicly known coating devices such as a blade coater, an air knife coater, a roll coater, a brush coater, a chanplex coater, a bar coater and a gravure coater. Further, if necessary, smoothing treatment such as super calendering and brushing can be performed after the recording layer is dried. The base material used as the base is not particularly limited, and is a paper base material such as acidic paper or neutral paper used for general coated paper, synthetic paper, and further polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polystyrene. A transparent or opaque plastic film made of a synthetic resin such as, metal foils, and laminated paper such as paper and plastic film are appropriately used.

It is also possible to design the recording layer so that the coating amount is relatively small and the substrate absorbs the ink. Especially when a paper substrate is used, the ink absorbency of the paper substrate becomes important. The ink absorbency of the paper base material can be controlled by adjusting the sizing degree. When the coating amount of the recording layer is relatively small, for example, about 5 g / m 2 or less,
Ink absorption tends to improve as the sizing degree decreases. The sizing degree is influenced by the type of pulp of the base paper, the beating degree of the pulp, the paper strengthening agent, the internally added sizing agent, the surface sizing agent, and the like. When a base material having poor ink absorption such as a plastic film or laminated paper is used, the recording layer itself needs to have a sufficient ink absorption capacity, and the coating amount of the recording layer is increased to some extent (for example, about 5 g / m 2). Above) is good. A gloss layer can be further provided on the recording layer containing the pigment and the adhesive to obtain a gloss type inkjet paper. In this mode, a high-quality photo-like image can be obtained. The gloss layer is formed by adding a resin and, if necessary, a pigment. It is preferable that the gloss layer is porous or liquid-permeable so that the ink can quickly pass therethrough as long as the gloss is not hindered. In order to do so, it is advisable to select a drying condition such that the resin does not form a film as long as the gloss is not reduced. In addition, when a pigment is mixed, it is preferable to select a pigment having a small particle size, for example, about 300 nm or less in order to prevent deterioration of transparency and gloss. Such pigments include colloidal silica, alumina sol,
Examples thereof include silica sol.

Examples thereof include polymers obtained by polymerizing ethylenic monomers such as α-methylstyrene, vinyltoluene, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, acrylamide, N-methylolacrylamide, ethylene and butadiene. The polymer resin may be a copolymer in which two or more kinds of ethylenic monomers are used in combination, and may be a polymer or a substituted derivative of the copolymer. Incidentally, examples of the substituted derivative include a carboxyl group derivative and an alkali derivative thereof. It is also possible to polymerize the above-mentioned ethylenic monomer in the presence of colloidal silica and use it in the form of a complex by Si—O—R (R: polymer component) bond.

The method for providing the gloss layer is not limited, but a polymer resin or a copolymer resin obtained by polymerizing the above-mentioned ethylenic monomer (hereinafter collectively referred to as a copolymer resin)
The method of applying a coating liquid containing as a main component, press-contacting the heated mirror surface drum while the coating layer is in a wet state, and finishing by drying (wet cast method) is the best among the cast methods. It is preferable because an inkjet recording paper having both gloss and ink absorbency can be obtained. In this case, it is desirable to use a base material having air permeability such as a paper base material so that water can be evaporated and dried by passing through the base material. The above-mentioned copolymer resin preferably has a glass transition point of 40 ° C. or higher, more preferably 50 to 100 ° C. If the glass transition point is low, film formation will proceed excessively during drying, and the porosity of the surface will decrease, which may result in a decrease in the ink absorption rate. Further, the drying temperature is important, and if the drying temperature is too high, the film formation proceeds too much, and the porosity of the surface is reduced, so that the ink absorption rate may be reduced. On the other hand, if the drying temperature is too low, the gloss tends to be poor, and the productivity also decreases. In addition, in order to adjust whiteness, viscosity, fluidity, etc. in the coating liquid for the glossy layer, pigments, defoaming agents, colorants, electrification agents used in general printing coated paper and inkjet paper Various auxiliaries such as an inhibitor, an antiseptic and a dispersant / thickener other than those mentioned above are appropriately added.

When the gloss layer coating liquid described above is applied onto the recording layer, a blade coater, an air knife coater,
Various known coating devices such as roll coater, brush coater, champlex coater, bar coater and gravure coater can be used. In addition, preferably, as described above, while the coating layer is in a wet state, it is pressed against a heated mirror surface drum and dried to perform a cast finish. In this case, the coating amount of the gloss layer coating liquid is 0.2 to 30 in terms of dry solid content.
g / m 2, preferably from 1 to 10 g / m 2. If the coating amount is small, the gloss may not be sufficiently obtained, and if the coating amount is large, the ink drying property may be poor or the recording density may be lowered. After providing the glossy layer, smoothing treatment can be further performed by a super calendar or the like.
