(57) Abstract: To provide a color picture tube capable of realizing a high-quality display by satisfying both sufficient improvement of luminance of an effective display screen and sufficient improvement of contrast characteristics. SOLUTION: By making the maximum transmittance of the effective display surface of the face plate 101 70% or more and 95% or less,
It is possible to significantly improve the brightness of a display image compared with the conventional maximum transmittance of 30 to 50%. Moreover, the area ratio of the black matrix 108 arranged so as to cover the space between the phosphors on the effective display surface to the effective display surface is 25 to 60%, and the face plate 101 and the phosphor layer 1 are
By setting the thickness of the color filter layer 106 interposed between the color filter layer 03 and the color filter layer 03 to be 0.05 to 1 μm, the contrast characteristic is improved while the low deterioration of the luminance is minimized, and the luminance and the contrast characteristic of the effective display screen are improved. It is possible to realize high-quality display by improving both

A color transmissive face plate having an effective display surface for displaying an image and an inner surface side of the effective display surface of the face plate are attached. The phosphor layer and the front end are joined to the back side of the face plate to form a sealed container as the outer shell of the color picture tube. The funnel having a funnel-shaped rear end and this funnel The main part is composed of an electron gun which is arranged inside the rear end part and which projects the electron beam onto the phosphor layer while scanning the electron beam at a position corresponding to the display image. The trajectory of the electron beam emitted from the electron gun is controlled by the magnetic field generated by the deflection yoke arranged so as to surround the path of the electron beam emitted from the electron gun, and projected onto a predetermined position of the phosphor layer. It In addition, a light-shielding layer called a black coating portion may be formed so as to cover the gap between the phosphor dots that form the phosphor layer and are arranged at positions corresponding to the respective pixels.

The brightness and contrast of the image are determined.

The second is a so-called pigmented phosphor, in which a color filter substance (pigment) corresponding to each color is mixed in the phosphor for each color. Thirdly, a color filter layer of a plurality of colors is formed, and a white light emitting phosphor layer is provided on the front surface thereof.

Therefore, it has been considered that the contrast characteristics can be effectively improved without lowering the chromaticity of the bright spot for each color of the screen, in other words, without lowering the purity of the color development and the luminance thereof.

The characteristics are low. The color of the phosphor layer itself is generally white, so that the brightness is extremely high.

That is, a method of mixing a pigment in the phosphor layer to darken the color of the phosphor layer itself is generally adopted.

As a result, there is a problem that the brightness of the display image is significantly reduced.

Since the peripheral portion has a high absorptance of light forming a display image, there is a problem that the luminance of the image is significantly different between the peripheral portion and the central portion of the screen.

There is a problem that the manufacturing method has to be special, and there are many restrictions on the manufacturing method and its structure, which makes it extremely difficult to realize in practice.

However, there is a problem in that the luminous efficiency of the phosphor layer itself is reduced, which leads to a reduction in the brightness of the displayed image.

There is a problem in that the power consumption of the color picture tube as a whole is significantly increased due to an increase in power consumption due to an increase in voltage for deflecting a high-energy electron beam.

There is (R). This R bright spot, that is, the spectrum of red light emitted from the phosphor corresponding to R is
The distribution is extremely narrow and steep, and the color purity of the color development of the R bright spot is more preferable if the spectrum is displayed as it is.

Therefore, a large subband exists in the spectrum of the R bright spot displayed on the screen. Therefore, there is a problem that the R bright spot of the image displayed on the screen is visually recognized by an observer as having a low deterioration in color purity. The problem of such color purity is the same not only in red (R) but also in green (G) and blue (B).

た。The panel center transmittance of the conventional color picture tube is generally about 49%. On the other hand, according to the present invention, the panel center transmittance is set to 83% at the maximum in the central portion of the face plate. The area ratio of the black matrix 108 was set to 35% in the central portion of the face plate. The average thickness of the color filter 106 formed of the above-mentioned forming material is 0.1 μm. When a color picture tube according to the present invention having such specifications was manufactured, the blackness of the screen was similar, the brightness was improved by about 40%, and the contrast ratio was also improved by about 40%. As described above, in the present invention, the maximum transmittance of the effective display surface of the face plate is 70% or more and 95% or more.
The maximum transmittance is 30 to 50, which is the same as the conventional maximum transmittance.
It is possible to improve the brightness of the displayed image to a greater extent than%. Moreover, at this time, the area ratio of the light shielding layer disposed so as to cover the space between the phosphors on the effective display surface to the effective display surface is set to 25 to 60%, and between the face plate and the phosphor layer. By setting the thickness of the color filter layer, which is formed by using the pigments, the color cells of the colors corresponding to the respective colors of the inserted pixels to be 0.05 to 1 μm, low deterioration of the brightness can be minimized. At the same time, the contrast characteristics can be improved, and the sufficient brightness of the effective display screen and the sufficient improvement of the contrast characteristics can both be achieved, and high-quality display can be realized. This was confirmed by our inventors in various experiments.

It was confirmed that the above-mentioned effects can be obtained even when the thickness of the color filter layer formed using is set to 0.05 to 1 μm.
