Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.離れた場所にいる観察者に画像を送ることができる変調装置を有する電子 光学ディスプレーに使用するバックライト組立体であって、 (a)光発生装置と、 (b)前記光発生装置と前記変調装置との間で接近して配置された開口装置と 、 (c)前記開口装置と前記変調装置との間に配置された第1の平行化装置であ って、前記開口装置に接近した平坦な光入力面と、前記光入力面から離れそれと 平行で光入力面より大きい表面積の平坦な光出力面とを有し、前記光線は全反射 によって前記第1の平行化装置を通って伝えられほぼ平行なパターンで前記光出 力面から出る第1の平行化装置と、 (d)前記第1の平行化装置と前記変調装置との間に配置された光入力面を有 する第2の平行化装置であって、前記光入力面は、前記第1の平行化装置から前 記ほぼ平行化された光線を受けると共に屈折を介して光線を伝達し、前記変調装 置にさらに平行なパターンで前記光線を向ける第2の平行化装置と、 を有するバックライト組立体。 2.前記第1の平行化装置は、傾斜光学部材の配列を有する請求項1に記載の バックライト組立体。 3.前記第2の平行化装置は、マイクロレンズの配列を有する請求項1に記載 のバックライト組立体。 4.前記開口装置と前記第1の平行化装置は、反射側を有する傾斜光学部材の 配列を有する請求項1に記載のバックライト組立体。 5.電子光学ディスプレーに使用するバックライト組立体であって、 (a)光発生装置と、 (b)前記光発生装置に接近した平坦な光入力面と、前記光入力面から離れそ れと平行であり、前記光入力面及びミラー側壁より表面積が小さい平坦な光出力 面とを有する集中装置であって、前記光線が、前記光入力面を通って入り、屈折 によって前記第1の集中装置を通って伝えられ、更に集約された光源として光出 力面から出る集中装置と、 (c)前記出力面に接近するように配置され、光入力面を有する平行化装置で あって、前記光入力面は、前記集中装置から前記集中した光線を受けると共に屈 折を介して前記変調装置にさらに平行なパターンで光線を伝達し、前記光線を伝 達する平行化装置と、 を有するバックライト組立体。 6.前記集中装置は、傾斜した光部材の配列である請求項5に記載のバックラ イト組立体。 7.前記平行化装置は、マイクロレンズの配列を有する請求項5に記載のバッ クライト組立体。 8.実質的に平行な光源を提供するバックライト組立体であって、 (a)光発生装置と、 (b)前記光発生装置と変調装置との間で接近して配置された開口装置と、 (c)前記開口装置の間に配置されたマイクロコリメータの配列であって、前 記開口装置に接近した平坦な光入力面と、前記光入力面から離れそれと平行な平 坦で前記光入力面より大きい表面積の光出力面とを有し、前記光線は開口装置を 通り全反射によって前記マイクロコリメータを通って伝えられほぼ平行なパター ンで前記光出力面から出るマイクロコリメータの配列と、 (d)前記マイクロコンセントレータに接近するように配置され、前記マイク ロコリメータの配列から前記平行光線を受ける光入力面を有するマイクロレンズ の配列であって、前記光線が、屈折を介してマイクロレンズの配列を通って伝達 され、更に平行な光源として出るマイクロレンズの配列と、 を有するバックライト組立体。 9.前記マイクロコリメータ及び前記マイクロレンズは、有機ポリマー材料か ら製造され、約1.45乃至1.65の間の屈折率を有する請求項8に記載のバ ックライト組立体。 10.直視型フラットパネルディスプレーであって、 (a)離れた場所にいるものが見ることができる画像を形成するために前記光 発生装置からの光を変調する変調装置と、 (b)前記変調装置の光出力面に隣接して配置された前記変調装置から前記画 像を表示する画像ディスプレー装置であって、平坦な基板上に傾斜光学ウエーブ ガイドの配列を有し、前記ウエーブガイドの各々の傾斜端部は、前記基板から外 側に伸び、前記基板に隣接した光入力面と前記光入力面から離れた光出力面とを 有する画像ディスプレー装置と、 (c)バックライト組立体であって、(i)光発生装置と、(ii)前記光発生 装置と前記変調装置との間で接近して配置された開口装置と、(iii)前記開口 装置と前記変調装置との間に配置されたマイクロコリメータの配列であって、前 記開口装置に接近した平坦な光入力面と、前記光入力面から離れそれと平行で光 入力面より大きい表面積の平坦な光出力面とを有し、前記光線は前記開口装置を 通って伝わり、内側の全反射によって前記マイクロコリメータを通って伝えられ ほぼ平行なパターンで前記光出力面から出るマイクロコリメータの配列と、(iv )前記第1の平行化装置と前記変調装置との間に配置された光入力面を有するマ イクロレンズの配列であって、前記光入力面は、前記マイクロコリメータの配列 から前記ほぼ平行化された光線を受け、前記光線は屈折を介してマイクロレンズ の配列を通って伝達され、前記変調装置用のさらに平行な光として出るマイクロ レンズの配列とを有するバックライト組立体と、 を有する直視型フラットパネルディスプレー。
