To apply such a coating to a thin veneer, the surface of the thin veneer is embossed with a wood pattern, then an undercoat is applied to the surface, and the surface of the veneered thin veneer is wiped. Then, the coating film formed by the undercoating is wiped off except for the embossed recesses, and a topcoating different in color from the undercoating is applied from the above. In this way, the color of the coating film of the topcoat and the color of the coating film of the undercoat overlap at the location of the embossed recesses on the surface of the thin veneer, making the color different from the other locations, and the grain pattern rises.

As a result, it is difficult to make a rough pattern on the whole as a whole, and the embossing pressure may cause cracks in the thin veneer to split, and even slight unevenness of the substrate that supports the thin veneer during wiping. As a result, the wiping pressure becomes non-uniform, and the coating film from the undercoat remains on the areas other than the embossed recesses, causing uneven coating.
The wiping pressure may split the thin veneer. Further, the thin veneer may be subjected to a decolorizing treatment with a weak acid aqueous solution, but even in that case, the thin veneer may be split.

As the adhesive, a vinyl acetate adhesive, an acrylic adhesive, a synthetic rubber adhesive, a vinyl acetate-ethylene adhesive, a phenol adhesive, a urea adhesive, a synthetic resin adhesive such as a melamine adhesive, Alternatively, a mixed adhesive of two or more kinds of the synthetic resin adhesives, for example, a mixed adhesive of a vinyl acetate adhesive and a melamine adhesive is used. The thin veneer (1) is a thin slice of wood and usually has a thickness of 0.5 to 0.8 mm. The backing sheet (2) has a cushioning property and is, for example, a non-woven fabric, a fiber knitted fabric, a plastic sheet, a plastic foam sheet or the like, and the thickness thereof is usually 0.2 to 0.4 mm. The thin veneer (1) is, if necessary, treated with a diluted weak acid aqueous solution such as acetic acid to dissolve and remove the resin component contained in the thin veneer (1). Decolorize the veneer (1). In this case, since the thin veneer (1) is reinforced by the backing sheet (2), the thin veneer (1) is not cracked or split by the decoloring treatment.

Even if the surface of the base (7A) of the embossing device (7) is not completely smooth and there are slight irregularities, such irregularities are due to the thickness of the backing sheet (2) of the thin veneer (1). It is absorbed by the change, and the embossing pressure is distributed almost evenly on the surface of the thin veneer (1), so that a clear embossing is applied as a whole. Further, as described above, since the embossing pressure is evenly distributed, stress concentration points do not occur, and the thin veneer (1) is prevented from cracking or splitting. Usually, the depth of the embossed recess (1A) by the embossing treatment is about 0.3 to 0.4 mm.

As the paint used for the coating, acrylic resin paint, styrene resin paint, vinyl acetate resin paint, vinyl chloride resin paint, styrene-butadiene resin paint, urethane resin paint, epoxy resin paint, melamine resin paint, alkyd resin paint, etc. Synthetic resin paint, nitrocellulose,
Cellulose resin paints such as cellulose acetate butyrate are used. The coating material may be either solution type or emulsion type.

The coating film (3) is left, and the coating film (3) at other places is wiped off by the blade (10). Even if the surface of the substrate (9) is not completely smooth in the wiping step 3 and there are slight irregularities, such irregularities are caused by a change in the thickness of the backing sheet (2) of the thin veneer (1). It is absorbed and the wiping pressure is evenly distributed on the surface of the thin veneer (1), and as a result, the coating film (3) except the embossed recess (1A) is completely wiped off by the blade (10). Moreover, since the wiping pressure is not partially concentrated, the thin veneer (1) is prevented from cracking or splitting.
