As described above, various methods have been proposed for discharging ink droplets from nozzles.
A method using a piezo element or a method using a heating element is generally used. The former is a method in which pressure is applied to ink to discharge it by deformation of a piezo element. The latter method is a method in which the ink is heated and vaporized by a heating element and the ink is ejected at a pressure of bubbles generated.

However, in the first method, if the voltage or pulse width applied to the piezo element or the heating element is too low, the ink will not be ejected, so that the minimum droplet diameter is limited. It has the disadvantage of being very difficult to express, especially at low concentrations. Therefore,
It is unsatisfactory to print out natural images.

However, also in the second method, when one pixel is constituted by a 4 × 4 matrix, a density of 17 gradations can be expressed. For example, the dot density is the same as that of the first method. When printed, the resolution is reduced to 1/4, and the roughness is conspicuous, which is also unsatisfactory for printing out a natural image.

In order to clarify the problems of the conventional on-demand type printer apparatus which discharges only ink, the present inventors have proposed, for example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. Hei 5-201024.
As shown in the publication, the ink and a diluent, which is a transparent solvent, are mixed at a predetermined mixing ratio immediately before ejection to obtain a diluted ink, and the diluted ink is immediately ejected from a nozzle and adhered to a recording material. A two-liquid mixing type printer device for performing recording has been proposed. Hereinafter, among such methods, the ink is used as a measurement medium, the diluent is used as a discharge medium, and the ink as a measurement medium is mixed with a diluent as a discharge medium to obtain diluted ink, and the discharge medium is discharged. A method of performing recording by using a carrier jet method is described. However, in the above-described printer apparatus, there is no problem even if the diluting liquid is used as the measurement medium and the ink is used as the ejection medium.

In such a printer of the carrier jet system, it is possible to control the density of the diluted ink droplets to be ejected and to change the density for each dot to be printed, thereby causing deterioration in resolution. Incidentally, such a two-liquid mixing type printer device has a first pressure chamber into which a quantitative medium is introduced, and a second pressure chamber into which a discharge medium is introduced. A first nozzle communicating with the first pressure chamber and a second nozzle communicating with the second pressure chamber are opened adjacent to each other, and a predetermined amount of the fixed amount medium is discharged from the first nozzle to the nozzle opening surface. Is transmitted to the second nozzle so as to bleed toward the second nozzle, and is brought into contact with the discharge medium filled in the vicinity of the tip of the second nozzle, thereby discharging a fixed amount of the discharge medium from the second nozzle. And a printer device that discharges a discharge medium as a mixed solution. That is, in this printer device, the ink concentration of the mixed droplet is changed for each dot by mixing a fixed amount of the diluting liquid or ink serving as the discharge medium while changing the amount of the ink or diluting liquid which becomes the measuring medium. To represent the gradation.

In such a printer device, first pressure applying means for applying pressure to the fixed amount medium in the first pressure chamber and pressure are applied to the discharge medium in the second pressure chamber. The apparatus has a second pressure applying means for applying the pressure. The first pressure applying means applies a pressure to the quantitation medium in the first pressure chamber, so that the quantitation medium bleeds from a first nozzle communicating therewith. The discharge medium is discharged from the second nozzle communicating with the discharge medium in the second pressure chamber by applying pressure to the discharge medium in the second pressure chamber by the second pressure applying means.

By the way, the first and second pressure applying means expands and contracts by changing the drive voltage to apply pressure to the first pressure chamber and the second pressure chamber. A piezo element for applying a pressure to a fixed amount medium and a discharge medium filled therein may be used. In such a pressure applying means, a quantitative medium which oozes toward the first and second nozzles by the magnitude of the driving voltage, the pulse width, the timing of applying pressure to the first and second pressure chambers, and the like. And the amount of the ejection medium to be ejected is regulated.

The amount of the quantitation medium that oozes out of the first nozzle is specifically adjusted by adjusting the amount by which the first pressure applying means is deformed from the standby state.
In other words, in order to obtain a non-maximum halftone density, the pressure applying means must be stopped before the deformation amount required to exude the maximum quantitative medium amount necessary to obtain the maximum density is reached. After that, the operation of returning to the original standby state is performed again. In other words, the rate of change of the amount of deformation of the pressure applying means is constant irrespective of the amount of the quantifying medium that exudes.

By the way, a force that tends to remain in the first nozzle acts on the quantitative medium due to surface tension or the like. Therefore, when a small amount of the quantitation medium is oozed out to obtain a low concentration, the force to be left in the first nozzle becomes relatively large with respect to the ooze-out force, and The reliable mixing operation to the ejection medium cannot be performed. That is, it is impossible to form dots with an appropriate ink density at a low density.

Next, a quantitative waveform when the driving voltage is 4.5 [V] will be described. In this case, the flow when the driving voltage is 9 [V] is the same up to the time point indicated by (C2) in FIG. From the time point indicated by (C2) in FIG. 16 to the time point indicated by (C ″) in FIG.

Here, the movement of the ink 22 will be described. The ink 22 tends to exude from the first nozzle 6 by deforming the first laminated piezoelectric element 18. However, at the same time, the ink 22 is also subjected to a force to stay in the first nozzle 6 due to surface tension or the like. The force of the ink 22 to stay in the nozzle 6 does not change so much depending on the amount of the ink 22 to be exuded. In other words, the smaller the amount of the ink 22 that is exuded, the greater the force that causes the ink 22 to stay relatively, and accordingly, the mixing with the diluent 21 discharged from the second nozzle 4 becomes unstable. turn into.

However, if the mixed discharge operation is performed according to the driving voltage waveform as described above, the driving voltage change rate becomes large when the amount of the ink 22 to be exuded is small, and the deformation rate of the first laminated piezoelectric element 18 is increased. Is also larger,
The force to exude also increases. Therefore, even when the amount of the ink 22 to be exuded is small, the force to exude relatively does not become smaller than the force to stay in the first nozzle, so that stable mixed ejection Operation becomes possible.

As described above, in the driving method of the printer device to which the present invention is applied, the driving voltage change rate is increased as the driving voltage is smaller as compared with the operation of pushing out the driving voltage waveform of the first pressure applying means. . Therefore, even if the amount of the quantitation medium to be exuded is small, the deformation rate of the first pressure applying means is large, so that the quantification medium is compared with the force for keeping the quantitation medium in the first nozzle. The force for oozing out is not relatively small.

Therefore, the driving method of the printer according to the present invention can be applied to the printing method of the low density, that is, even if the pushing amount (driving voltage) becomes small, the rate of change of the pushing amount (driving voltage change rate). , The mixing and discharging operation can be reliably performed.

By the way, the driving voltage waveform of the first laminated piezo element 18 in the present invention may be a case where there are only two turning points as shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 18, there is no problem even if there is only one turning point. Further, there is no problem even if the number of turning points is three or more as shown in FIG. Further, as shown in FIG. 20, even if a smooth curve is drawn from the time point shown in FIG. 20B to the time point shown in FIG. It goes without saying that there is no problem even in the case of a combination of a polygon and a curve.

After all, even if the state in which the first laminated piezoelectric element 18 is pressed is steady, if the amount of the ink 22 to be exuded is small by using the quantitative waveform as in the present invention, the driving voltage change Therefore, the deformation rate of the first laminated piezo element 18 also increases, and the force for exuding the piezoelectric element 18 also increases. As is apparent from the above description, the driving method of the printer according to the present invention mixes the quantitative medium extruded by the first pressure means and the discharge medium extruded by the second pressure means. In the method of driving a printer device for ejecting, the rate of change in the amount of extrusion in the pushing operation of the first pressure applying means is changed so as to increase as the amount of extrusion decreases. Since the deformation rate of the droplet from the first nozzle also increases, the force that causes the quantitative medium to seep out from the first nozzle even when the amount of extrusion is small is the force that tends to remain in the first nozzle due to surface tension or the like. It does not need to be relatively small with respect to. Therefore, in the method of driving the printer of the present invention, even if the amount of extrusion is small,
That is, even if the density to be printed is low, it is possible to form dots with an appropriate ink density, and it is possible to perform a reliable mixed discharge operation from low density to high density.
