Description of the Related Art In recent years, as the demand for the production of high-grade steel has increased, in the production of low-sulfur steel, a desulfurization treatment of an iron-based molten alloy has been carried out before a converter process, which is an oxidation refining process, and charged into a converter. The method of reducing the sulfur concentration in the molten iron-based alloy has been widely adopted. Further, for ultra-low sulfur steel having an extremely low sulfur concentration, a method of deoxidizing and desulfurizing in a ladle after tapping from a converter is widely used.

Desulfurization is performed by adding these desulfurizing agents to a torpedo car, a hot metal pot, a converter and the like as a reaction vessel. in this case,
As a method for adding a desulfurizing agent, a method of mechanical stirring after injection or charging of molten steel into the upper part is adopted.

Therefore, as described in, for example, Materials and Processes, vol. 6 (1993), p. 1070, soda ash and calcium carbide are used in torpedo cars and the like in which the stirring power of an iron-based molten alloy is weak.

As disclosed in JP-A-07-281 and JP-A-52-115717, metallic Mg has a strong desulfurizing ability but is expensive. Therefore, in the present invention, metal Mg is generated using a raw material that can be obtained at a low cost, and the Mg is used to desulfurize an iron-based molten alloy, and only a small amount of metal Mg is used as an auxiliary. Then, reoxidation of the desulfurization product, which is a concern during the desulfurization, is also prevented.

and a flux containing an alkaline earth metal or a halide or oxide of an alkali metal as a main component of a desulfurizing agent is introduced into the iron-based molten alloy. The desulfurization of the iron-based molten alloy is performed using the generated Mg. In this case, as a method for supplying the flux, an injection, a wire feeder, or the like can be adopted.

By setting the amount to be less than 3, which is the condition of 1 excess, the reaction of the above formula (1) can be efficiently advanced.

On the other hand, by adding an alkaline earth metal or a halide or oxide of an alkali metal to the flux at a ratio of 1 to 10% by weight with respect to Al to lower the melting point of alumina, the formula (1) is obtained. It has been found that inhibition of the reaction progress can be prevented. Therefore, in the present invention, the flux contains an alkaline earth metal or an alkali metal halide or oxide in an amount of 1 to 10% by weight based on Al. In this case, the halide or oxide of an alkaline earth metal or alkali metal may be a single compound or a mixture of two or more kinds. Examples of such compounds include CaO and CaCl 2, but are not limited to specific compounds as long as the melting point of alumina can be reduced.

Desulfurization proceeds according to the reaction of the following formula (2). Mg + S = MgS (2) Since both the above formulas (1) and (2) are reaction exothermic reactions,
It is desirable that the temperature of the iron-based molten alloy to be treated is high.

Is used as the main component of the desulfurizing agent. However, since this flux has a small bulk specific gravity of about 2, the desulfurizing agent is added after the desulfurizing agent is added as compared with the case of using metallic Mg alone. The time until the end is longer. Therefore, in the present invention, in order to shorten the processing time, an appropriate amount of metal Mg is added in addition to the flux. In order to shorten the treatment time as compared with the case of using only the above flux, it is effective to mix metal Mg in the amount shown in the following formula. Amount of metal Mg (% by weight) = (processing time to be shortened /
Processing time that can be shortened when 20% metal Mg is blended) x 20

The upper limit is 20% by weight with respect to the total amount of Mg, but it has been found that even if the amount of the metallic Mg is more than 20% by weight, the Mg is dissipated as a vapor and does not effectively act on desulfurization. It is because. In addition, if the amount of metallic Mg is in such an amount, there is no problem in terms of price.

It is known that resulfurization occurs. Therefore, also in the present invention, CaO or CaCO 3 is added in an amount of 5% by weight or more based on the total amount of the flux and the metallic Mg, and MgS generated by the above formula (2) is reacted by the reaction shown by the following formula (3). , CaS, it is necessary to fix S to prevent resulfurization. MgS + CaO = MgO + CaS (3) It is desirable that the amounts of CaO and CaCO 3 are large. However, from the results of desulfurization experiments, in order for these to cover the molten metal surface of the iron-based molten alloy, it is necessary to use 5 % Was found to be necessary.
