Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make rapid processing possible and to improve diffraction efficiency by processing a photosensitive material having specific silver halide emulsion layers with a bleaching bath having the ferric complex salt of specific compds. SOLUTION: This photosensitive material has the silver halide emulsion layers of 10 to 50mm in the average grain size of silver halide grains, 0.2 to 2.0 in a silver/gelatin ratio and 1 to 3g/m<2> in the coated amt. of silver. This processing method has a stage of processing this material with the bleaching bath contg. the ferric complex salt selected from the compds. expressed by formulas I to III. In the formula I, A1 to A4 denote -CH2 OH, -PO3 (M)2 , etc., M denotes a hydrogen atom, alkaline metal atom, etc.; X denotes 2 to 6C alkyl group, an org. group forming a ring, etc.; n1 to n4 are integers of >=1 and at least one thereof is >=2. In the formula II, A5 to A8 are synonymous with A1 to A4 ; X denotes 2 to 6C alkyl group, etc. In the formula III, A9 to A12 are hydrogen atoms, hydroxyl groups, -COOM1 , -PO3 (M)2 , etc., and at least one thereof is -COOM1 , -PO3 (M)2 , etc.; M, M1 denote hydrogen atoms, alkaline metal atoms, etc.

A hologram is a method in which a wave of light coming from an object is recorded on a photosensitive material in the form of interference fringes with a reference wave, and the wavefront of the object light is reproduced as diffracted light from the hologram.

As a photosensitive material having a high resolution and sufficient sensitivity that can be used for this hologram, a silver halide photosensitive material can be mentioned. Further, in order to obtain a bright reproduced image with a hologram, it is necessary to have a high diffraction efficiency. In order to increase the diffraction efficiency, the silver halide light-sensitive material may be increased in the amount of coated silver. However, when the amount of coated silver is increased, the developing speed decreases, and it takes time to obtain an image.

If the developing solution is activated, for example, to increase the developing speed, the filaments of the developed silver are apt to elongate, so that the gap between the developed silver is increased and the resolution of the image is reduced. As a result, the amplitude of the phase modulation does not increase, the diffraction efficiency decreases, and a bright reproduced image cannot be obtained.

Accordingly, a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material for hologram, which has a bright and clear reproduced image, high diffraction efficiency, and can be processed quickly, is strongly desired, for example, disclosed in US Pat. No. 4,720,441. A method of using potassium iodide before bleaching, or a method of performing hardening after development processing disclosed in JP-A-3,695,879 is known. However, these prior arts cannot be said to be sufficient, and further improvement is required.

[0007] In order to obtain a phase hologram using a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material, it is necessary to perform a bleaching process after the development process. Hitherto, bichromate has been used as a bleaching agent because of its high oxidizing power and great power to enhance the tanning effect. The term “tanning effect” as used herein refers to a phenomenon in which a developing agent oxide crosslinks gelatin molecules during development, and locally hardens gelatin around developed silver particles. When bleaching is performed after development to enhance this tanning effect, when the developed silver is bleached and turned into larger silver salt particles, it forms a gelatin shell with a higher refractive index than the surrounding gelatin. This is the reason why the phase modulation due to the presence or absence of the silver salt caused by bleaching is further enhanced, and the diffraction efficiency is increased.

However, since chromium in bichromate, which is currently used as a bleaching agent, is a heavy metal, it is not preferable from the viewpoint of environmental friendliness in recent years. In addition, a new technique for obtaining a hologram with high diffraction efficiency has been strongly desired.

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive material for holograms according to the present invention is of a transmission type, and the higher the resolution of the light-sensitive material, the better a reproduced image can be obtained. The resolving power of the light-sensitive material largely depends on the silver halide grain size, but the average particle diameter of the silver halide particles used in the silver halide light-sensitive material of the present invention is 10 to 50 nm. Particularly preferred average grain size of silver halide grains is 1
0 to 40 nm. The smaller the average particle diameter, the more preferable the processing time can be shortened, high resolution can be obtained, and an image without devitrification can be obtained.

Here, the average particle size is a term that is commonly used by experts in the field of photographic science and is easily understood, and the particle size is defined as a particle having a spherical shape or a particle approximate to a sphere. Means particle diameter. If the particles are cubic, they are converted into spheres, and the diameter of the sphere is defined as the particle size. For details of the method for determining the average particle size, see C.I. E. FIG. K. Mees & T.

Further, silver halide grains may be further grown, or may be grown continuously from nucleation. Further, as a method of further promoting the reduction of the particle size, the above-mentioned mixing operation is carried out in the presence of a silver halide insolubilizing agent such as azaindenes, mercapto compounds, benzotriazoles, benzimidazoles, indazoles, and phthalazines. Preferred is a method of performing the in-line mixing of the two aqueous solutions, then a method of continuously in-line mixing the insolubilizing agent and the water-miscible organic solvent liquid, and a method of adding the two aqueous solutions to the water-miscible organic solvent. The present inventors have conducted intensive studies to enhance the diffraction efficiency of the silver halide photographic light-sensitive material for holograms. As a result, the silver halide photographic light-sensitive material having a specific range of silver / gelatin ratio and silver content was obtained. It has been found that increasing the melting time of the photosensitive layer, that is, increasing the hardness of the silver halide emulsion layer is effective.

Each coating solution for the backing layer and the backing protective layer was prepared. The support was made of 175 μm biaxially stretched polyethylene terephthalate. On one surface, the silver content of the emulsion layer was set as shown in Table 1, and the gelatin content of the protective layer was 0.4 g / g.
m 2 at the same time. 1-1
To 1-16. The amount of gelatin in the silver halide emulsion layer was adjusted so that the silver / Gel ratio on the emulsion layer side of the support was as shown in Table 1. On the other side, a backing layer is coated so that the amount of gelatin on the backing layer side is 0.8 times the total amount of gelatin on the emulsion layer side, and a backing protective layer is further formed thereon with a gelatin amount of 1.0 g / g. A film sample was obtained by simultaneous multi-layer coating to obtain m 2 .
