No. 08 / 006,311 filed on Jan. 19, 1993 All of the above applications are specifically incorporated herein by reference for all purposes. ing. Background of the Invention The present invention relates to a device for preventing theft of relatively small but expensive parts of equipment. Computers are large and expensive machines that can only be used by a few people. Rather rapidly evolving into relatively small portable machines that can be used by humans Have been. In particular, the development of desktop computers with remarkable processing power This makes the computer available. College students and high school Even school students usually have their own computers, and desktop computers Computer as a word processor and work terminal in almost all types of business. Widely used. The desktop computer is relatively small and easy to transport An unwanted side effect of its spread is that computer theft is significant. It is a fact that matters. Various devices have been developed to prevent theft of desktop computers and similar equipment. Have been. Tabletop computing devices require several components and are typically Computers, separate monitors, keyboards and many more include printers Therefore, such safety devices often place each of the components in Uses kegel that attaches to objects that are relatively immovable. This The major difficulty with such equipment is the effective and convenient way to attach the cable itself to the fixture. To provide an effective method. Kensington Microware Limited, the assignee of the present application, Provides security devices specifically designed for use with certain Apple Computers doing. Certain Apple computer components are inserted through grooves, with grooves Inner brackets designed to catch tabs specifically designed to be non-removable And the This device is not available for special types of Apple computers. These Apples are effective but do not have specially designed grooves and brackets It doesn't work for computers and other computer brands. Brackets are large enough to provide ample space for parts of equipment The computer has specially designed grooves and internal capture brackets to take up It is undesirable to require that you have Different items of Apple equipment are different It requires grooves of different sizes and the safety mechanism must provide tabs of various different sizes. Means not. Once inserted, these tabs can be removed without damaging the equipment. It cannot be removed and the safety device moves from one computer to another. It means you can't dregs. Applecon with specially designed grooves Even a computer is typically used with these non-grooved peripherals. And Kensington The device is a special switch that replaces the screws used to install existing communication cables. Install screws that require a screwdriver, and attach peripheral devices to the base computer. Secures by preventing unauthorized removal of communication cables. this The last form of the device is a special device that can cause peripherals to be lost or misplaced. Cannot be removed from base computer without screwdriver Has disadvantages. Other professionals have special channels, such as those found on certain Apple computers. Provides a safety device that does not require direct contact with the catching mechanism The existing mounting screws, that is, to fix each part of the fixture inside the cabinet Attached to computer components using screws already used for Various brackets are provided. Typically, this bracket is perforated and This prevents the cable passage through this hole from approaching the mounting screws and Bracket can be prevented from being removed from the fixture . Defects in this type of device cause some damage to internal components of the computer It is necessary to remove such existing mounting screws. It's a proper survivor Folds are not always available at certain perimeters for convenient attachment of fasteners . For this latter reason, I am offering. Similarly, Pin or set screw 127 is the front cylinder 1 19 relatively small openings 129 and cylindrical section 116 of spindle 114 groove 133 of extension 1 extension 1 Engage with 31. Front cylinder 119 thus rotates with respect to spindle 114 Fixed. Like a well-known cylindrical lock, Multiple pins are usually front cylinder 119 and rear cylinder 120 so that the cylinders rotate together. Is locked, This prevents relative rotation between the locking shell 90 and the spindle 114 I am trying to do it. But, The key 140 (see FIG. 13B) is the opening plate 9 of the shell 90. 6 can be inserted through and engage the front cylinder 119. This correction key is a circle It has a boss positioned to push down the pin passing between the cylinders 119 and 120. So that these pins do not span the contact surface between the two cylinders, These circles Allow the cylinders to rotate with respect to each other. In this structure, Spindle 114 Can rotate relative to shell 90 only when the appropriate key is inserted and rotated. The spindle 114 further connects the shaft 122 with the cross member 124 at the free end of the shaft. Contains. A contact press in which the contact mechanism 126 fits inside the top piece 92 And a pair of pins 130 extending outwardly through the opening 128 and the opening 95. doing. A spring 132 is disposed between the contact plate 128 and the leading piece 92 and the spindle 132 The cylindrical portion 116 of 114 and the contact plate are urged rearward. . Abutment plate 126 extends cross member 124 through aperture plate It has an elongate opening 134 to allow access. In this state, Cable 840 (see FIG. 23B) is passed through mounting member opening 810 and locked. It can be attached to an external object such as it can. K Bull also prevents screw 816 from being removed. The mounting member 802 ' As is clear from FIG. 24A, Suitable screw holes or screw-in An outside sized for the support to engage the screw 816 'with this hole (or insert) If a wall (not shown) is provided, Because it is used independently of the engagement mechanism 820 It will be understood that further, Mounting member 802 "also has any other suitable engagement By means, For example, as seen in FIG. 24B, Mounting member 802 "bottom end and wall ( (Not shown) by providing a double-sided adhesive pad 870 to engage the outer surface , Can be fixed to the outer wall. In still another embodiment of the same device 800, Mounting member 802 ″ is screw hole 814 The mounting member 802 "is hinged to the base portion 818 having the To be able to rock away from the outer wall when not in use. This implementation In aspects, The base part 818 is connected via a screw 816 ″ and a threaded insert 819 The fixture is fixed close to the outer wall of one piece of equipment. The mounting mechanism concept of FIGS. 23A and 23B also includes a retractable spindle arm 908 and Combined ordinary lock assembly 910 (described previously with reference to the embodiment of FIG. 3). Una). As shown in FIG. 26A, Mounting machine Structure 900 is attached to one end of cable 920 having a closed loop at the other end. K Bull 920 is first wrapped around a relatively immobile object (not shown) Structure 900 is passed through loop 922 and attached to the part to be protected, such as exterior wall 950 Make it difficult to steal. The mounting mechanism 900 is shown in the retracted position in FIG. 26B and, generally, House 902 and a first and a second end which are attached to the bottom end of the housing 902 and extend outwardly therefrom. Second elastic engagement arms 904L and 904R are included. Engaging arm 904L, 904 R is Further details below As noted, Easily received in groove 952 at the retracted position of spindle arm 908 A first and second inwardly bent end of each of the arms configured to be inserted therein 906L and 906R. Other of the housing 902 from the engagement arm At the end there is a normal cylindrical lock assembly 910, One example is detailed with reference to FIG. 13B. It is described in detail. Spindle arm 908 has one end attached to cylindrical lock assembly 910 It can be attached, The other end of the spindle arm 908 is the housing 902 Extends between the engagement arms 904L and 904R on the outside. Spindle arm 908 Is connected to the lock assembly 910 and is connected to the lock assembly 9 by an appropriate key (not shown). Rotation of ten produces translational movement of spindle arm 908 in the direction of arrow 930 (see FIG. 26B). I'm nervous. This movement of arm 908 Any known in the art In the way For example, the inside of a corkless cam mounted on lock assembly 910 Has a spindle arm 908 which is received by the lock rotation By causing a corresponding translational movement of the dollar arm 908, Can do Wear. In operation, With the spindle arm 908 in the retracted position of FIG. 26B, , Engagement portions 906L and 906R can be inserted into grooves 952. When inside groove 952, Key Is inserted into the lock assembly 910 and rotated so that the spindle arm 908 moves in the direction of the arrow 930. To the retracted position. Arrow of spindle arm 930 The movement along 930 is such that the engagement arms 904L and 904R move outward in the direction of arrow 940. To allow the engagement portions 906L and 906R to move outwardly and to provide a groove. 52 is engaged with the inner surface. In this way, Mounting mechanism 900 on outer wall 950 It becomes fixed closely. Next, the mounting mechanism 900 is removed from the adjacent outer wall 950. To remove An appropriate key is reinserted into the lock assembly 910 and rotated to rotate the spindle Room 908 I can put it in. This is the engagement arm 904L, 904R returns to its natural shape in FIG. 26B. So that the engagement part 906L, So that 906R is separated from groove 952 I do. FIG. 27 is a perspective view of another preferred embodiment of the present invention. Suitable cable and lock May require a certain amount of movement for the equipment to be protected or to be protected. this In those cases, Portable computer using proximity detection device 980 Equipment can be protected. Proximity detector 980 standardized as base unit 982 The use of groove 72 (eg, as shown in FIG. 5) makes monitor 14 relatively permanent. Includes a mounted remote unit 984. Various implementations shown in FIGS. 1-27 Embodiments provide examples of different mounting schemes for remote unit 984. Substrate unit 982 and the remote unit 984 work together to control the distance between these units. I will. As is well known in the art, many Law exists. One method is to use the base unit 980, Signal to remote unit 984 Periodically send transmitters will be provided. In operation, Remote unit 984 includes a receiver and self-powered siren (not shown). It is. If remote unit 984 fails to receive the periodic transmission, Sires Indicates the unauthorized removal of equipment to be activated and protected. Optionally, Remote Uni 984 The specific part of the equipment where the base unit 982 activates and protects the siren Include a transmitter that sends a unique ID code that allows you to check the minutes Can be.
