Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 カーペットのクリーニング法 技術分野 本発明は、カーペットのクリーニングのための組成物の使用に関する。 背景技術 合成または天然繊維、およびそれらの混合物から製造されるカーペットは、床 を覆うものとして住居および商業的用途に普通に用いられる。ポリアミドやウー ルなどの様々な種類の繊維を、カーペットの製造に用いることができる。 しかしながら、カーペットは、天然繊維または合成繊維から作られていること には関わりなく、いずれも多くの家庭用品との接触によって汚れたり染みが着い たりしやすい。食品、グリース、油状物、コーヒー、茶、およびソフト・ドリン ク、特に酸性染料を含むものなどの飲料は、見苦しい、ときには濃い染みをカー ペットに着けることがある。また、繊維は、ごみ粒子、粘土、塵、粒状汚れが一 般にカーペットの繊維と接触しこれに付着する結果、汚れることがある。これら 後者の汚れは、点の形態よりは拡散した汚れの層の形態で見られ、特にドア付近 などのいわゆる「高通行量部分」に、その部分でカーペットが集中的に使用され る結果として、蓄積しがちである。 染みや汚れを除去する目的で、多数のカーペットクリーニング組成物が当該技 術分野で報告されている。しかしながら、これらの組成物は、様々な種類の染み や汚れについてのそのクリーニング性能に関しては、消費者のニーズに完全に合 うものではない。実際に、これらのカーペットクリーナー組成物は、特に、いわ ゆる「高通行量部分」に粒状汚れの除去については、完全に満足なものではない 。 従って、本発明の目的は、各種のカーペットクリーニング組成物、すなわち、 液状または粉末状または顆粒状の組成物に適用できる方法で、カーペットからの 粒状汚れの除去を改良することである。 前記の目的は、キレート化剤を汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートまたはポリアミ ンポリマーと組合せて含む組成物を処方することによって達成されることができ ることを見いだされた。実際に、このような組成物は、いわゆる「高通行量部分 」に生じる拡散した染みおよび汚れの層、すなわち除去が極めて困難になってし まった染みや汚れについて特に、優れた粒状汚れ除去性能を得ることができる。 更に詳細には、キレート化剤、またはキレート化剤と汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレ ートもしくはポリアミンポリマーとの組合せ、またはそれらの混合物を含んでな る組成物を使用すると、カーペットからの粒状汚れの除去について相乗効果が得 られることが見いだされた。更に、前記のキレート化剤と汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキ シレートまたはポリアミンポリマーとの組合せは、活性酸素の供給源をも含んで おり、これによって優れた粒状汚れ除去性能を示し、漂白可能な染みのような他 の種類の汚れや染みについても良好なクリーニング性能を発揮する水性カーペッ トクリーニング組成物で用いるのに特に適している。 本発明の利点は、あらゆる種類のカーペット、特に敏感な天然繊維に適用でき 、あらゆる種類の染料、特にそこで用いられる敏感な天然染料にも安全であるこ とである。 本発明のもう一つの利点は、カーペットを傷めることなくカーペットに直接適 用できることである。加えて、本発明のクリーニング作用は、カーペットクリー ニング組成物を表面に適用したならば直ちに始まる。実際に、本発明のカーペッ トクリーニング組成物の使用は、カーペットを擦ったりおよび/またはブラッシ ングすることを必ずしも必要としないのである。 下記の文献は、カーペットクリーニング組成物に利用可能な先行技術の代表的 なものである。 WO92/17634号明細書には、アルカリ溶液(pH=7〜10.5)を 前記カーペットに適用するすることからなる、カーペット繊維からの染みの除去 法であって、前記溶液は、活性酸素の供給源の溶液を重炭酸または炭酸アンモニ ウムおよびフッ素化アルキルスルホン酸またはその配位塩の溶液と使用直前に混 合することによって得られる、カーペット繊維からの染みの除去方法が開示され ている。この特許出願明細書には、カーペットのクリーニングのための組成物に キレート化剤または汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートまたはポリアミンポリマーを 組合せて用いることによって得られる利点、すなわち前記組成物の粒状汚れ除去 性能の改良、は勿論のこと、これらの使用は、全く記載されていない。 米国特許第3,607,760号明細書には、ペットの染みを除去するのに特 に適した水性カーペットクリーナーであって、過酸化水素、エチレンまたはジエ チレングリコールの炭化水素エーテル、炭化水素一価アルコール、およびEDT Aを含んでなるカーペットクリーナーが開示されている。汚れ懸濁ポリマーは開 示されていない。 EP−A−346,835号明細書には、pH7〜12の水溶性アルコール( C1〜C5)および酸化剤(過酸化水素)を含んでなる水性カーペットクリーナー が開示されている。キレート化剤および汚れ懸濁ポリマーは、全く記載されてい ない。 欧州特許出願第93870161.2号明細書には、pHが1〜6である活性 酸素の供給源を含んでなる安定な水性組成物のカーペットのクリーニングへの使 用が開示されている。更に詳細には、この欧州特許出願明細書には、このような 組成物がビルダー系、例えばアミノポリホスホネートを全組成物の1〜7重量% を含むことができることが開示されている。汚れ懸濁ポリマーは、開示されてい ない。 発明の開示 本発明は、キレート化剤またはその混合物を汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートま たはポリアミンポリマー、またはそれらの混合物と組合せて含む組成物のカーペ ットのクリーニングへの使用を包含する。 本発明は、カーペットのクリーニング法であって、キレート化剤を汚れ懸濁ポ リカルボキシレートまたはポリアミンポリマーと組合せて含む組成物を前記のカ ーペットへ適用し、次に、このカーペットを場合によっては擦りおよび/または ブラシをかけこの組成物をこのカーペットから除去することを特徴とする、方法 も包含する。 総ての量、百分率および比率は、特に断らない限り、そのニートの形態での全 組成物の重量で示される。 発明を実施するための最良の形態 本発明は、キレート化剤またはその混合物を、汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレート またはポリアミンポリマーまたはそれらの混合物、と組合せて含む組成物をカー ペットのクリーニングへ使用することにより、粒状汚れの除去の性能を改良する ことを包含している。本発明によれば、用いられる組成物は、液状、または顆粒 状、または粉末状のいずれであってもよい。 「改良された粒状汚れ除去性能」とは、ここでは、キレート化剤を汚れ懸濁ポ リカルボキシレートまたはポリアミンポリマーと共に含んでなるカーペットクリ ーニング組成物を用いることによって行なわれる粒状汚れのカーペットからの除 去が、キレート化剤を全く含まないおよび/または汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレー トまたはポリアミンポリマーを全く含まない前記組成物を用いることによって得 られる粒状汚れの除去と比較して、改良されることを意味する。更に詳細には、 意外なことには、粒状汚れ除去性能についての相乗効果が、キレート化剤と汚れ 懸濁ポリカルボキシレートまたはポリアミンポリマーとの組合せと関連している ことを見いだしたのである。「粒状汚れ」とは、ここでは、カーペット上に見い だすことができる粒子性のあらゆる汚れまたは染み、例えば粘土、ごみ、塵、泥 、コンクリートなどを意味する。 本発明によれば、組成物は、ここでは第一の必須成分として、キレート化剤ま たはその混合物を含む。本発明で用いるのに適したキレート化剤としては、ホス ホネートキレート化剤、アミノカルボキシレートキレート化剤および多官能性置 換芳香族キレート化剤が挙げられる。 本発明で好適なホスホネートキレート化剤としては、有機アミノホスホネート 化合物、例えばアミノアルキレンポリ(アルキレンホスホネート)、アルカリ金 属エタン1−ヒドロキシジホスホネート、ニトリロトリメチレンホスホネート、 エチレンジアミンテトラメチレンホスホネート、およびジエチレントリアミンペ ンタメチレンホスホネートが挙げられる。このホスホネート化合物は、その酸形 態でも、または酸官能基の幾つかまたは全部についての様々なカチオンの塩とし ても存在することができる。本発明で用いられる好ましいホスホネートキレート 化剤は、ジエチレントリアミンペンタメチレンホスホネートである。このような ホスホネートキレート化剤は、DEQUEST という商品名でMonsantoから市販されて いる。 本発明で用いるのに適したアミノカルボキシレートキレート化剤としては、エ チレンジアミンテトラアセテート、N−ヒドロキシエチレンジアミントリアセテ ート、ニトリロトリアセテート、エチレンジアミンテトラプロピオネート、トリ エチレンテトラアミンヘキサアセテート、ジエチレントリアミンペンタアセテー ト、およびエタノールジグリセリド、それらのアルカリ金属、アンモニウムおよ び置換アンモニウム塩が挙げられる。 本発明で用いられる好適な多官能性の置換芳香族キレート化剤は、1974年 5月21日にConnerらに発行された米国特許第3,812,044号明細書に記 載されている。酸形態でのこの種の好ましい化合物は、1,2−ジヒドロキシ− 3,5−ジスルホベンゼンのようなジヒドロキシジスルホベンゼン類である。 本発明で用いられる好ましい生分解性キレート化剤は、エチレンジアミンジス クシネート(「EDDS」)、特に1987年11月3日にHartman およびPerk ins に発行された米国特許第4,704,233号明細書に記載されている[S ,S]異性体である。 本発明の組成物は、そのニート形態では、キレート化剤またはその混合物を全 組成物の0.01重量%〜5重量%、好ましくは0.05%〜3%、更に好まし くは0.1%〜1%含むことができる。 本発明の組成物は、第二の必須成分として、汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートま たはポリアミンポリマー、またはそれらの混合物を含んでいる。 当業者に知られているいずれの汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートポリマー、例え ばポリアクリレートおよび無水マレイン酸および/またはアクリル酸などのコポ リマーのようなホモ−またはコ−ポリマー性ポリカルボン酸またはそれらの塩を 、本発明に用いることができる。実際に、このような汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレ ートポリマーは、適当な不飽和モノマーであって、好ましくはその酸形態の物を 重合または共重合することによって製造することができる。重合して適当なポリ マー性ポリカルボキシレートを形成することができる不飽和モノマー性酸として は、アクリル酸、マレイン酸(または無水マレイン酸)、フマル酸、イタコン酸 、アコニット酸、メサコン酸、シトラコン酸、およびメチレンマロン酸が挙げら れる。ビニルメチルエーテル、スチレン、エチレンなどのようなカルボキシレー ト基を含まないモノマー性セグメントが本発明のポリマー性ポリカルボキシレー トに含まれていることは、このようなセグメントが約40重量%を上回らない限 り好適である。 特に好適なポリマー性ポリカルボキシレートは、アクリル酸から誘導すること ができる。本発明で用いられるこのようなアクリル酸を基剤としたポリマーは、 重合したアクリル酸の水溶性塩である。酸形態でのこのようなポリマーの平均分 子量は、好ましくは約2,000〜10,000であり、更に好ましくは約4, 000〜7,000であり、最も好ましくは約4,000〜5,000の範囲に ある。このようなアクリル酸ポリマーの水溶性塩としては、例えばアルカリ金属 、アンモニウムおよび置換アンモニウム塩を挙げることができる。この種の可溶 性ポリマーは既知材料である。この種のポリアクリレートの洗剤組成物での使用 は、例えば1967年3月7日に発行されたDiehl の米国特許第3,308,0 67号明細書に開示されている。 アクリル酸/マレイン酸を基剤としたコポリマーを、好ましい汚れ懸濁ポリカ ルボン酸ポリマーとして用いることもできる。このような材料としては、アクリ ル酸およびマレイン酸のコポリマーの水溶性塩が挙げられる。酸形態でのこのよ うなコポリマーの平均分子量は、約2,000〜100,000であり、更に好 ましくは約5,000〜75,000であり、最も好ましくは約7,000〜6 5,000の範囲である。このようなコポリマーでのアクリル酸塩対マレイン酸 塩セグメントの比率は、通常は約30:1〜約1:1の範囲であり、更に好まし くは約10:1〜2:1である。このようなアクリル酸/マレイン酸コポリマー の水溶性塩としては、例えばアルカリ金属、アンモニウムおよび置換アンモニウ ム塩を挙げることができる。この種の可溶性アクリル酸/マレイン酸コポリマー は既知材料であり、1982年12月15日に公開された欧州特許出願第669 15号明細書に記載されている。特に好ましいものは、平均分子量が約70,0 00のマレイン酸/アクリル酸のコポリマーである。このようなコポリマーは、 SOKALAN CP5 の商品名でBASFから市販されている。 任意の汚れ懸濁ポリアミンポリマーを、本発明で用いることができる。本発明 で用いるのに特に好適なポリアミンは、ポリアルコキシ基を有するポリマーであ り、アルコキシル化ポリアミンである。このような材料は、繰返し単位 および (式中、Rは通常は2〜6個の炭素原子を有するヒドロカルビル基であり、R1 はC1〜C20炭化水素であることができ、アルコキシ基はエトキシ、プロポキシ などであり、yは2〜30であり、最も好ましくは10〜20であり、nは少な くとも2、好ましくは2〜20、最も好ましくは3〜5の整数であり、X-は四 級化反応から生じるハライドまたはメチルスルフェートのようなアニオンである )を有する実験式構造の分子として好都合に表すことができる。 本発明で用いるのに最も好ましいポリアミンは、いわゆるエトキシル化ポリエ チレンアミン、すなわち、一般式 (式中、y=2〜30)を有するエチレンオキシドとエチレンイミンとの重合反 応生成物である。本発明で用いるのに特に好ましいものは、エトキシル化ポリエ チレンアミン、特にエトキシル化テトラエチレンペンタミン、および四級化エト キシル化ヘキサメチレンジアミンである。 本発明によるカーペットのクリーニング用の組成物は、そのニートの形態では 汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートまたはポリアミンポリマー、またはそれらの混合 物を全組成物の0.05重量%〜10重量%、好ましくは0.1%〜5%、更に 好ましくは0.1%〜2%、最も好ましくは0.2%〜1.5%含むことができ る。 汚れ懸濁ポリカルボキシレートまたはポリアミンポリマーおよびキレート化剤 についてここで述べた濃度は、これらの濃度では、最大性能が最も経済的な手段 で得られるという点において好ましい。また、これらの濃度では、組成物がカー ペット上に残ることがある残部の量が最小限となる。 本発明は、活性酸素の供給源をも含む組成物の、カーペットのクリーニングで の使用も包含する。好ましい態様では、前記組成物は液状水性組成物である。後 者の水性組成物は、全般的クリーニング性能について特に効率的である。実際、 本発明によるカーペットのクリーニング用の好ましい組成物は、いわゆる「高通 行量部分」で蓄積しがちな拡散する汚れ(粒状汚れ)で特に効率的であるが、他 の種類の染みや汚れ、すなわちコーヒー、飲料、食料などのスポット染みについ て良好なクリーニング性能を発揮することにおいても特に効率的である。 本発明の液体水性組成物が活性酸素の供給源を含む場合のもう一つの利点は、 この組成物が安定であることである。従って、前記組成物は、消費者にとって使 用に好都合である。実際に、本発明によるカーペットのクリーニング用の前記の 液体水性組成物は、使用前にpH調整を必要とせず、使用まで長時間保存するこ とができる。 従って、本発明によるカーペットのクリーニング用組成物の任意であるが極め て好ましい成分は、活性酸素の供給源である。本発明による好ましい供給源は、 過酸化水素またはその供給源である。ここで用いられるように、過酸化水素供給 源は、水と接触したときに過酸化水素を生成する化合物を表す。ここで用いる過 酸化水素の適当な水溶性供給源としては、過炭酸塩、金属過酸化物、および過ホ ウ酸塩が挙げられる。 また、他の種類の過酸化物を、過酸化水素およびその供給源の代替物として、 または過酸化水素およびその供給源と組合せて用いることができる。適当な種類 としては、ジアルキル過酸化物、ジアシル過酸化物、予備成形した過カルボン酸 、過硫酸塩、有機および無機過酸化物および/またはヒドロ過酸化物が挙げられ る。 従って、本発明の組成物は、好ましくは組成物中に活性酸素を全組成物の0. 1重量%〜15重量%、好ましくは0.5重量%〜10重量%、最も好ましくは 1重量%〜5重量%含んでいる。 ここで用いられるように、活性酸素濃度は、過酸化物化合物の過酸化物官能基 を完全に還元して酸化物とするとき、水まで還元される所定の過酸化物化合物の 所定のパーセント濃度に化学量論的に同等である酸化数が0の元素状酸素のパー セント濃度を表す。本発明による活性酸素供給源は、着色した染みを除去し、悪 臭を有する分子を破壊し、微生物を殺す組成物の能力を増加させる。 利用可能な酸素の濃度は、ヨウ素滴定法、過マンガン酸滴定法、セリウム塩滴 定法などの当該技術分野で知られている方法によって決定することができる。こ れらの方法、および適当な方法の選択の基準は、例えば「過酸化水素(Hydrogen Peroxide)」,W.C.Schumb,C.N.SatterfieldおよびR.L.Wentworth,Reinhold Publishing Corporation,ニューヨーク,1955年、および「有機過酸化物(Or ganic Peroxides)」,Dniel Swern 監修,Wiley Int.Science,1970年に記 載されている。 本発明による組成物に使用するのに適する有機および無機過酸化物/ヒドロ過 酸化物としては、ジベンゾイルペルオキシド、第三ブチルヒドロペルオキシド、 ジラウロイルペルオキシド、ジクミルペルオキシド、過硫酸、およびそれらの混 合物のようなジアシルおよびジアルキル過酸化物/ヒドロ過酸化物が挙げられる 。 本発明による組成物は、これらの有機過酸化物を0%〜15%、好ましくは0. 005%〜10%含んでいる。 本発明によるカーペットのクリーニング用の組成物に用いるのに適する予備形 成したペルオキシ酸としては、ジペルオキシドデカン酸DPDA、マグネシウム 過フタル酸、過ラウリン酸、過安息香酸、ジペルオキシアゼライン酸、およびそ れらの混合物が挙げられる。本発明によるカーペットのクリーニング用組成物は 、それらのニートの形態では、前記の予備形成したペルオキシ酸を0%〜15% 、好ましくは0.005%〜10%含んでいる。 場合によっては、本発明の組成物は、過酸前駆体、すなわち過酸化水素と反応 してペルオキシ酸を生じる化合物0%〜30%、好ましくは2%〜20%を含ん
