In an electrostatic suction type recording apparatus, electrification is injected into conductive ink and the ink is sucked toward the counter electrode by electrostatic attraction. Alternatively, the ink droplets reach the printing surface in the form of a thread, but the diameter of the droplets or the string can be formed as small as about 10 μm, and the printing quality is good. Since it is composed of electrodes for generating an electric field between the electrodes, the configuration is very simple. However, it is necessary to apply a high voltage in order to fly ink only by electrostatic attraction due to an electric field between the electrodes.

In this method, the ink held in the slit-shaped space is selectively heated to lower the viscosity, surface tension, and volume resistivity of the heated portion of the ink, and only the heated portion is not heated. It is designed to fly at a lower voltage than that of.

However, even with this method, the problem that the stringing of the ink is not stably generated only by applying a voltage between the electrodes remains unsolved. The reason is that when a voltage is applied between the electrodes, the electric charge is injected into the conductive ink and the electric charge concentrates on the tip of the ink. However, since the ink is usually concave at the slit or the ink ejection port of the nozzle due to surface tension, the slit or Electric charges are concentrated on the end of the nozzle, and it is not known from which point on the end the ink bulges, and in some cases, multiple stringing may occur, significantly deteriorating print quality. I was letting it.

To improve this point, a method of forming a convex meniscus has been proposed in order to stably generate a string. A method in which the ink tank is held at a position higher than the ink ejection port, or a method in which a static meniscus is constantly applied from behind the pressure chamber to form a convex meniscus, and a traveling wave is generated in the ink, or a piezoelectric element or the like is used. There is a method in which a convex meniscus is formed by applying periodic pressure to a pressure chamber by an actuator, and a voltage is applied in synchronization with the meniscus to generate a string.

The former disadvantage is that since the convex meniscus is constantly formed, if the balance between the static pressure and the ink surface tension is lost, the ink will flow out from the ink discharge port, and foreign matter such as paper dust will be generated. When the ink adheres to the vicinity of the ink ejection port, the ink may easily flow along the foreign matter. Also, it takes time for the ink consumed by the flight to be re-supplied by the hydrostatic pressure and return to the initial meniscus state, which limits printing at a high frequency. When trying to drive, there is a case where the injection of electric charge cannot be made in time.

In the latter method, the risk of ink leakage is reduced, but a new device for forming a convex meniscus other than the electrodes is separately required, and the device is separately manufactured and attached to the head base. However, the most common piezoelectric element as an actuator is difficult to perform fine machining.
There is a problem in that the nozzles cannot be arranged at a density higher than dpi, the degree of integration of the nozzles is reduced, the printing speed is reduced, and the size of the head is increased.

The operation of the recording head of the electrostatic suction type recording apparatus of the present invention having the above configuration will be described. As shown in FIG. 3, when the heater 11 is energized, the heater 11 heats the buckling body 10 and At the same time, the temperature of the ink around the buckling body 10 in the ink chamber 8 is also increased. Then, since both ends of the buckling body 10 are integrated with the substrate 9, the buckling body 10 cannot expand in the direction of the arrow X in the drawing, and when the internal stress increases and reaches a specific buckling temperature, the buckling body 10 undergoes buckling deformation. In the drawing, the central portion swells and deforms toward the ink chamber 8 shown by the arrow Y, and the ink causes the ink ejection port 2 to form a convex meniscus.

Then, as shown in FIG. 4, when a recording voltage is applied between the recording electrode 12 and the counter electrode 4 in synchronization with the growth of the convex meniscus of the ink, the electrostatic attraction between the recording electrode 12 and the counter electrode 4 is increased. A string 13 of ink is generated by the force. At this time, since the viscosity and the surface tension of the ink are reduced because the ink is heated, the ink flies at a lower voltage. Further, since the volume resistivity is also reduced, charge injection into the ink is performed quickly, and high-speed response is possible.

Since the buckling body 10 having a single heater can perform two functions, that is, the function of raising the temperature of the ink and the function of forming a convex meniscus, the buckling body 10 having a built-in heater and the buckling body can be used. A single heater can be used as a heater for deforming the body 12, and the manufacturing process is simplified as compared with the case where the heater is manufactured separately.

A current is passed through the buckling member 1 to keep the buckling body 10 at a temperature lower than the buckling temperature. At the same time, the temperature of the ink is kept constant. And the channels where dots should be formed include:
By increasing the voltage applied to the heater 11 and flowing it, the buckling body 10 is heated to a temperature higher than the buckling temperature and buckled to make the ink meniscus convex. In synchronization with this, the recording electrode 12
When a recording voltage E is applied between the electrode and the counter electrode 4, the ink string grows from the top of the convex meniscus, and the ink flies.

According to the first aspect of the present invention, since the electrostatic suction type recording apparatus is configured as described above, the ink temperature is increased by heating from the heat deformable body to lower the viscosity of the ink, and the ink is electrostatically charged. It is possible to reduce the recording voltage to be sucked.
In addition, a convex meniscus is formed at the ink discharge port of the nozzle by the thermal deformation of the thermal deformable body, and the thread of the ink can be stably grown. it can.

Since the function of raising the temperature of the ink and the function of forming the convex meniscus can be performed simultaneously, the heat generating element for deforming the heat deformable element and the heat generating element for heating the ink are also used. It can simplify the manufacturing process compared to separately manufacturing, can be driven at a lower voltage than conventional electrostatic suction type recording devices, has good print quality, and has low cost of integration. It is possible to provide a small and high electrostatic suction type recording apparatus.

Since the electrostatic suction type recording apparatus according to the second aspect has the above-described configuration, the heat deformable body is always controlled to a constant temperature during non-recording, so that only a small amount of thermal energy is applied during recording. Can deform the heat-deformable body, and can perform heat-deformation faster than applying heat from a state in which no heat is applied to the heat-deformed body. Furthermore, by raising the temperature of the entire ink, there is no difference between the ink temperature of the continuously recording channel and the ink temperature of the non-recording channel. This eliminates the need to adjust and control the recording voltage based on the driving history of each channel as in the conventional case, enabling high-speed printing and reducing the influence of the driving history of the channel. No high quality recording can be done.

Since the electrostatic suction type recording apparatus according to the third aspect is configured as described above, the ink is constantly heated by deforming the thermally deformable body by periodically applying heat to reduce the viscosity of the ink. It is possible to lower the pressure and form a stable convex meniscus, and because the convex meniscus of any channel is formed equally and periodically, the pressure change in the nozzle depending on whether the adjacent channel is driven or not The formation of a stable convex meniscus can be performed without being affected by the above.

According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, since the electrostatic suction type recording apparatus is configured as described above, the convex meniscus of the ink can be formed in a stable state by the surface tension of the needle-like member, and the heat deformable body can be formed. It is possible to provide the ink on the side of the nozzle near the ink discharge port without any limitation on the installation position of the ink, and it is possible to efficiently heat the ink near the ink discharge port, and to lower the surface tension and viscosity of the ink with lower energy. In addition, the volume resistivity can be reduced. Further, the rise time of the electrostatic suction type recording apparatus can be shortened.
