2. Description of the Related Art The environment surrounding plants includes salt stress,
Various stresses such as drying stress, light stress, and temperature (high / low temperature) stress exist. Plants acquire a mechanism that can respond to environmental stress in the process of evolution and protect themselves. However, severe environmental stress has a significant effect on growth. For example, salt stress in a desert and drought stress are mentioned.

Heretofore, various techniques have been developed to enhance the resistance of plants to environmental stress. For example, a method for producing a plant with enhanced resistance to environmental stress by introducing a choline dehydrogenase gene and a betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase gene involved in the synthesis of glycine betaine (JP-A-8-26617)

Also, a method for suppressing transpiration of plants by treating an acetylene compound and phenylbenzyl urea (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 1-226801), a purified wood vinegar solution obtained by separating tar and resin components from a crude wood vinegar solution obtained by carbonizing wood. And a method of treating a plant active agent consisting of sugar and sugar (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 4-145008). These techniques focus on the effects of salt stress, drought stress, and low temperature stress on plants.

[0004] In the case of Japanese agriculture, summer cultivation is a major problem. The temperature rises very much in summer, causing high temperature stress on the plants. Under high-temperature stress, the germination rate decreases,
Inhibition of early growth, stunting, pest damage, etc. are caused. In addition, in facility cultivation, the temperature at night is hard to decrease, making it difficult to produce high-quality vegetables. Methods for coping with high-temperature stress include seedlings cultivated in the cold in the night, seedlings cultivated in the cooler climate, and shade cultivation, but a sufficient method has not been established.

On the other hand, environmental pollution caused by pesticides has become a social problem, and the development of highly safe pesticides has been promoted. As one example, attempts have been made to use Chinese herbal medicines for fertilizers, pesticides, and the like. For example, a crude drug fermented liquid (Alm Green: trade name of Alm Co., Ltd.) has been registered as an agricultural chemical to promote turf root elongation and strengthen disease resistance. In Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. Hei 2-26886, it is proposed to use a fermented fermented product obtained by adding a mineral substance to the extraction residue of a medicinal plant. , Luffa, amachazur, cucumber, melon or licorice, a plant extract saponin and a plant growth promoter containing a fermentation product as an essential component have been reported. JP-A-8-143406 reports a plant growth promoter comprising a combination of glycyrrhizin, a main component in licorice, and vitamins. However, the effects of these plant growth promoters cannot be said to be very large, and there are problems such as the fact that the effects of imparting high temperature stress resistance to these agents have not been clarified. Therefore, development of more useful and powerful plant growth promoters and high temperature stress tolerance conferring agents has been awaited.

Example 2 Influence of Licorice Extract Components on Initial Growth of Asparagus in High Temperature Environment 8 ml of an aqueous solution (pH 6.0) obtained by diluting the licorice extract components by 1000 times was added to filter paper in a petri dish. Seed 10 seeds of asparagus (product name "Welcome" manufactured by Sakata Seed Co., Ltd.) on the filter paper (2 repetitions), culture at 25 ° C and 30 ° C in dark place, and after 7 days, It was measured. 25 ° C
Table 1 shows the results based on the base length (100%) when no additive was added. As is clear from Table 1, high temperature conditions (30 ° C)
In the licorice extract application section, a remarkable growth promoting effect was observed as compared with the control section. Therefore, it was recognized that the licorice extract component had an effect of imparting high temperature stress resistance.

Example 3 Influence of Licorice Extract Components on Chinese Cabbage Seedlings in High Temperature Environment Cultivation for seedling raising (trade name "Mother Soil" Takii Seed Co., Ltd.)
Was placed in a plug tray (128 holes) for cell molding seedlings.
Chinese cabbage (variety name “Disease-resistant 60 days” manufactured by Takii Seed Co., Ltd.) was sown on this tray. Cultivation was performed in a greenhouse set at 20 ° C and 35 ° C. From the time of sowing, an aqueous solution (pH 6.0) obtained by diluting the licorice extract component 1000 times was subjected to leaf surface treatment once a week (to the extent that leaves are wetted). Cultivated up to about 2 to 3 true leaves, and measured fresh and dry weights. Table 2 shows the results based on no addition at 25 ° C. (100%). As is clear from Table 2, under the high temperature condition, the licorice extract component application section showed a growth promoting effect as compared with the untreated section.

Example 4 Effect of Licorice Extract Components on Cucumber Seedlings at High Temperature Soil for raising seedlings (trade name "Mother Soil" Takii Seedling Co., Ltd.)
Was placed in a 9 cm seedling raising pot. Cucumbers (variety name "Hokushin" manufactured by Takii Seed Co., Ltd.) were sowed in this pot.
From the first leaf development, an aqueous solution (pH 6.0) obtained by diluting the licorice extract component 1000-fold was subjected to leaf surface treatment once a week (to the extent that the leaves are wetted). Cultivated in the same way, divided into two seasons with different climates. The plant was cultivated for 25 days, and the above-ground weight and underground weight were measured. Table 3 shows the results based on the case of no addition (100%). As is clear from Table 3, in the high temperature period (7/11 to 8/5), the licorice extract-applied section showed a growth promoting effect compared to the untreated section.
