正極と負極の間に発光を司る物質が存在し、電気エネルギーにより発光する素子であって、該素子が下記一般式(I)で表されるイミノスチルベン骨格を有する化合物を含むことを特徴とする発光素子。
(ここでR1〜R11はそれぞれ同一であっても異なっていてもよく水素原子、アルキル基、アラルキル基、アリール基、シクロアルキル基、フルオロアルキル基、アミノ基、ハロゲン、ニトロ基、シアノ基、ヒドロキシル基、アルコキシ基およびアリールエーテル基から選ばれる少なくとも1種類の置換基を表わす。なお、R9に用いられるアリール基としては、無置換またはアルキル基、アミノ基、ヒドロキシル基、あるいはアルコキシ基で置換された芳香族炭化水素基である。)
