本発明においては、表示領域とシール材との間に凸部(液晶止め用構造物)を形成し、凸部及びその凸部に対向する基板面上に垂直配向膜を形成する。垂直配向膜は液晶に対するぬれ性が悪いので、凸部の部分では第1及び第2の基板を重ね合わせたときの液晶の拡散速度が遅くなる。また、凸部の部分ではセル厚が狭くなるので、液晶の拡散速度が更に遅くなる。これにより、シール材が硬化するまで凸部で液晶の拡散を止めることができる。

This allows the convex portion to stop the diffusion of liquid crystal until the sealing material hardens.

前記空間内に封入された液晶と、
前記第1の基板上に形成されて表示領域を囲み、かつ前記第2の基板との間に隙間を有する液晶止め用構造物と、
前記液晶止め用構造物の頂部及び対向部に形成された垂直配向膜と
を有することを特徴とする液晶表示パネル。
