Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a simple and highly productive process for the production of cigarette filter, which comprises attaching fine powders of an additive to the surface of cellulose acetate film, wrinkling the film, and forming the wrinkled film to cylindrical form .
CONSTITUTION: Powdery additives such as activated charcoal, silica gel, etc. (pref. finer than 100 mesh) are attached to the surface of film made of cellulose acetate which is soluble to organic solvents. The film is wrinkled and smoothed, or wrinkled, and slitted to thin tapes, and formed to a cylindrical form. The cylinder is cut to a desired length to obtain the objective cigarette filter. The attaching of the powdery additives to the film is effected, e.g. by dispersing the powder in a solvent which dissolved or swells the film, and spraying the dispersion to the film followed by drying the solvent.
