Abstract

PURPOSE: To hole superior magnetic characteristics despite applying of heat treatment for protecting layer formation and yet form a recording medium of high output and low noise by using a nickel-tin alloy plating layer as an intermediate layer provided between an underlying layer and a magnetic plating layer.
CONSTITUTION: A treated layer 2 through zinc immersion, a copper striking metal 3, an underlying plating layer 4 of copper-tin alloy are formed on a disc form aluminum alloy made magnetic disc blank 1. After the blank has been subjected to heat treatment and surface polishing, a nickel-tin plating layer (intermediate layer) 5 and a magnetic plating layer 6 are formed and further a nickel-tin plating layer 7 and a magnetic plating layer 8 are formed in a similar manner. Finally, a protecting layer 9 is formed. The nickel-tin alloy used as the abovementioned intermediate layer does not produce magnetism despite being subjected to high temperature heat treatment and does not reduce the squareness ratio (Br/Bm) of the magnetic characteristics of the disc.
