Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible accurate measurement of insulation characteristics through free connection between the electric field relaxing layer and the ground point by means of an insulating layer provided on the boundary between the electric field relaxing layer and a low resistance corona shield layer.
CONSTITUTION: A insulating layer 9 and optionally, a protective electrode 10 are provided on the boundary section between an electric field relaxing layer 8 and a low resistance corona shield layer 7 which are to be arranged on the surface of a main insulating layer 6 at the coil end, thereby allowing free electrical connection between the electric field relaxing layer 8 and the ground point such as iron core 2 through a lead wire 11. With such an arrangement, in measuring the insulation characteristics of the main insulating layer 6, an ammeter is inserted between the lead wire 11 and the ground point to measure the value of the current flowing to the ground point from the electric field relaxing layer 8. Substraction of the measured value from the reading of an ammeter on the primary side will give the value of the current alone flowing through the main insulating layer 6 between a conductor 5 and the low resistance corona shield layer 7. Thus, accurate measurement of insulation characteristics is made possible.
