Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an α-and /β-unsaturated hydrocarbons or their isomers, by reacting a β, γ- unsaturated alcohol or their isomer mixture with an H-releasing reducing agent in the presence of a Pd or its compound, and CO2.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of a β,γ-unsaturated alcohol of formula I or II: (R1 is hydrocarbon group which may be substituted; R2 is H or lower alkyl group) or its isomer mixture is reacted with an H-releasing reducing agent in the presence of preferably 0.0001W0.2 gram-atom of Pd or its compound (calculated as Pd) and preferably one or more moles based on one gram-atom of Pd of CO2 to give an unsaturated hydrocarbon of formula III or II or its isomers. Molecular hydrogen, hydrazine, formic acid, formaldehyde, etc. may be cited as the reducing agent.
