Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a coating composition of good adherence to prior coating f ilm, high water resistance, hardness, durability and coating processability. by incorporating a Ti-, Zi-, or Al-type chelating agent in a copolymer of (meth) a ctylic acid with its ester.
CONSTITUTION: The objective coating composition comprising (1) 100pts.wt. of an acrylic copolymer resin solid of a hydroxyl value of 40W300, also having a molecular weight, measured by gel permeation chromatography technique, of 5,000W4,000, obtained by copolymerization between (A) 5W70wt% of acrylic or methacrylic acid and (B) 95W30wt% of a 1W12C alkyl methacrylate and/or 1W12C alkyl acrylate, and (2) 1W30pts.wt. of a Ti-, Zr-, or Al-type chelating agent. Said chelating agent is e.g. tiatnium lactate, zirconium acetylacetonate, aluminum alcoholate, etc.
