Abstract
PURPOSE: To treat hydrogen sulfide easily and to convert it into sodium thiosulfate with high value added, by use of a catalyst soln. consisting of a polyvalent metal of VIII group and the fourth period of the periodic table, a polyaminocarboxylic acid, and an oxy acid.
CONSTITUTION: For example, an aq. soln. contg. 0.018 mol/l. Fe, 0.0324 mol/l. nitrilotriacetic acid, 0.036 mol/l. tartaric acid is adjusted to pH 8.5, then air is injected into the soln. to form catalyst soln. of iron III chelate. The catalyst soln. is sprayed downward from the top of a packed tower and is brought into gas- liq. contact at ordinary temp. and press. with a gas contg. hydrogen sulfide. Thereupon hydrogen sulfide contained in the gas is converted into sodium thiosulfate and solid sulfur, in that case, the formation of solid sulfur decreases to a level lower than that formed by a conventional method, increasing the formation of sodium thiosulfate to the extent
