Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of sulfur scale and to attain to enhance a desulfurising ratio by contacting an aqueous solution containing a mixture of an iron chelate compound and a nonionic surfactant with a hydrogen sulfide containing gas.
CONSTITUTION: In an absorbing tower 2, the hydrogen containing gas 1 from a viscose preparing process or a sewage treating plant is subjected to gas-liquid contact with an aqueoue solution containing a mixture of iron chelate agent as a catalyst such as nitrilotriacetic acid or ethylene-diamine-tetraacetic acid and a nonionic surfactant which is a polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether type compound. By this treatment, hydrogen sulfide is oxidized to be converted to sulfur. In this method, because the nonionic surfactant reduces sulfur adhesion as well as increases the absorbing speed of hydrogen sulfide, scale is not adhered and a desulfurizing ratio is enhanced.
