Abstract

PURPOSE:To attempt to lighten the burden of a cleaning means, maintain the proper density of a developing agent, and prevent the dirt of a separator for the transfer material by providing a shutter which selectively interrupts and opens the optical path between the light source and the image forming region of a photoeceptor. CONSTITUTION:Reflecting shade 71 of lamp 61 and shield member 31 of voltage detector 3 are provided with opening 71' and opening 31', respectively, and they are so constituted that light shield plate 16 may enter and wxit th optical path from the light source 61 between openings 71' and 31'. Blank exposure to light by the light path is made before document tray 5 goes forward, at the time of returning the document tray 5 when continuous copying is done, and at the time of after-treatment. When the tray 5 goes forward, the optical path from the lamp 61 is interrupted such that the light is not incident onto the image forming region of photoreceptor 1'. Concurrently, part of the light which has passed through the openings 71' and 31' is made to be incident onto the outside of the image forming region of the photoreceptor 1', but care is taken not to let the developing agent adhere to the region.
