Abstract

PURPOSE: Radical polymerization initiators acting at different temperatures are added and the polymerization is conducted under specific conditions to produce B- staged molding material of unsaturated polyester with high stability.
CONSTITUTION: To an unsaturated polyester from unsaturated dibasic acids such as fumaric acid and alcohols such as ethylene glycol is added 40W5 mole% of styrene on the acid basis. Then (A) a radical initiator not acting below 60°C such as benzoyl peroxide and (B) another raidcal initiator acting below 120°C such as methyl ethyl ketone peroxide are combined so that the acting temperature of (A) is more than 10°C higher than that of (B). The mixture is added to the unsaturated ester and treated first at the temperature below that at which (A) acts and then at aother temperature over that at which (B) acts to produce the objective B- staged molding material.
