Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a molded reinforced plastic article having improved flame retardancy and mechanical strength with ease, by hardening an inorganic fibrous reinforcing material impregnated with a compound comprising a resol-type phenolic resin, a hardener, and water.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic fibrous reinforcing material is impregnated with a compound comprising (a) a resol-type phenolic resin, (b) 0.2W20 parts by wt., preferably 1W15 parts by wt. of a hardener, and, if neecssary, (c) a filler, a release agent, a colorant, etc., and (d) 5W50wt.%, preferably 15W35 wt.% of water (based on the total weight of solid resin content and water), and hardened without drying positively. If th water content is > 50wt.%, the hardening is retarded to degrade the surface gloss and meehanical strength. If the water content is < 5wt.% difficult agitating operation for preparing the resin compound results in degrading operating efficiency and stength of molded articles.
