Abstract

PURPOSE: To make preventable the excessive current usuallu caused in the welded metal at an incident of short circuit, by inserting the resistance in series to the magnetic-driving-current-line, when a contactive short circuit across the parts is caused before starting the arc, and when the parts are pressure welded after the arc is started.
CONSTITUTION: The pipes 2 and 3 are contacted and the magnetic switch 6 is colsed. Hereupon, the magnetic switch 7 is peviously set open and the magnetic switch 8 is set closed. Hereby, the current flows through switch 6 → resistance 9 → switch 8, so that the current flows through the resistance 9 even if pipes 2 and 3 are in the short circuit condition; therefore, the excessive current never flows through both pipes 2 and 3. After a period of specified time passes since closing of the switch 6, the pipes 2 and 3 are separated into a spesified distance by the sequential control. As a result, the arc starts, and turns in the direction of periphery by the influence of the magnetic field; here-by, the end faces of pipes 2 and 3 are uniformly heated, and then, are pressure welded. According to this method, the welding work can be extremely stabilized.
