Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily and surely bond the butt ends of a metal plate which is coiled to cylindrical form with a welding device of relatively small capacity by disposing an electric iron core to the electric circuit at the intermediate of a stationary electrode and a moving electrode in flash butt welding.
CONSTITUTION: The butt ends B1 and B2 of a cylindrical metal plate A which is wound to cylindrical form are opposed in a butt state on the same plane. A stationary electrode C1 and moving electrode C2 are connected to the secondary wire of a welding transformer D and the butt ends B1 and B2 are clamped with a suitable clamping device on both electrodes and the electrode C2 is moved to the electrode C1 by a moving device E. An electric iron core (magnetic circuit) F is disposed so as to stride over the metal plate A to the electric circuit constituting a bypass at the intermediate of the electrode C1 and electrode C2. As a result, the current flowing to the bypass may be controlled by the counter electromotive force generated by the iron core F, whereby the generation of reactive shunt considerably limited.
