Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize the quality and to simplify for process of producing a crosslinked polyolefin for insulated wires, by feeding (A) pellets containing a silane and a radical initiator and (B) those containing a siloxane condensation catalyst and isophthalylhydrazide to an extruder.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Polyolefin pellets, e.g. low-density polyethylene, are impregnated with (a) a silane, e.g., vinyltrimethoxysilane, (b) a radical initiator, e.g. dicumyl peroxide, etc., and (c) an entioxidant, e.g., poly-2,2.4-trimetlyl-1,2-didydroquinoline, etc. with agitation under heating. (B) Polyolefin pellets are impregnated with (d) a siloxane condensation catalyst, e.g. dibutyltin dilaurate, etc., and (e) an isophthalylhydraxide-type copper inhibitor, e.g., isophthalic acid bis (α- phenoxy propionyl hydrazide, etc. The both pellets (A) and (B) are fed to an extruder hopper while being measured continuously, and reacted in the extruder under heating, extruded into a molded article, which is brought into contact with water and crosslinked.
