Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a β-galactosidase-activity enhancing medium useful for the enzyme immuno-assay which needs the determination of β-galactosidase activity, comprising a hydrophilic alcohol, a ketone, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Title medium comprising (A) water, (B) 5-30% of a mono-trihydric 1-3C alcohol, e.g. methanol, ethanol, propylene glycol, glycerine, etc., or a ketone, e.g. acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, etc. The β-galactosidase-activity is further enhanced by adding 1-30 mM, pref. 10-25 mM of a thiol group-containing compound such as glutathione, mercaptoethane, dithiothreitol, etc.
