Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure the selective recovery of valuable metals by masking the obstructing action of iron ion by the procedure in which when a heavy metals-mixed aqueous solution containing iron ion is treated by a froth treatment method, a compound capable of forming aluminium ion upon dissociation is added in advance.
CONSTITUTION: A heavy metals-mixed aqueous solution containing copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, etc., together with iron ion, is subjected to a froth treatment using a froth treating agent, e.g., a polyamine derivative. In this case, a compound, e.g., ammonium alum, etc., which is capable of forming aluminium ion upon dissolution in water, is added in advance as a masking agent for dissolved iron in more than equivalent of objective heavy metal for selective recovery, and then a froth treating agent is added in a proportion of more than 2 mole per one atom gram of the objective heavy metal. Thus, it is possible to mask the obstructing action of iron ion present in solution and thus to recover objective heavy metals in the form of froths, leaving iron component intact in solution.
