Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain microcapsules of high heat resistance and low permeability by polymerizing urea with HCHO in the presence of an isobutylene/maleic anhydride copolymer to form urea/HCHO resin walls around a hydrophobic oily liquid dispersed in advance. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. system is prepared contg. an isobutylene/maleic anhydride copoymer with a MW of about 50000- about 200000 and a maleic anhydride content of 20-60 mol%, and urea. A hydrophobic oily liquid such as natural mineral oil which becomes a practically insol. nuclear substance is then emulsificaton dispersed in the system. After adding HCHO, the dispersion is regulated to pH<=7.0, esp. <=4.0 and 10-95, esp. 45-60 deg.C, and the urea and HCHO are polymerized with stirring. By adding NH4 salt of acid such as NH4Cl, the polymn. is accelerated. The resulting microcapsules are useful as capsules for press. sensitive recording paper.
