Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the attraction force of disc and head by providing an α-Fe2O3 film layer on the head surface opposing to a disc surface in a magnetic disc apparatus of contact start-stop system.
CONSTITUTION: An α-Fe2O3 film is formed on only the slider surface 2 of a magnetic head, e.g., IC head, or the surface 2 provided with a serration from the core surface 1 to be made flush thereto. The thickness thereof is desirably less than 0.1μm with consideration being paid for head floating quantity. Methods such as sputter, ion beams and the like are employed for the formation of α-Fe2O3. Prior mixing of α-Fe2O3 powder in the manufacture of head material, so called ferrite sintered body is also conceivable. Thereby, the occurrence of stick slip caused by attraction is suppressed and the occurrence of the wear and scratching of the disc and head is improved.
