Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable suppression of noise generated upon vibration of the outer cylindrical column of a muffler for sequentially introducing externally exhaust gas through a plurality of partitioned chambers formed within the column.
CONSTITUTION: In a muffler M which incorporates on outer cylindrical column 10, a plurality of partition walls 21, 22 including outer peripheral edges 211, 221 for dividing the interior of the column 10 into three partitioned chambers R1 to R3, and a plurality of diffuser pipes 31 to 34 passing through at least either one of the walls 21, 22, there are arranged the edge 211 of the wall 21 at the internal recesses 101 of outer shells 11, 12 through the opening edge 53 of an inner cylindrical column 50 for interposing glass wool G therebetween, and the edge 221 of the wall 22 at the other internal recesses 102 of the shells 11, 12. The opening edges 111, 121 of the shells 11, 12, respectively are mutually butt seam welded so as to interpose the column 10 between the edges 211 and 221.
