Abstract

PURPOSE: To use an information retrieval unit for household information retrieval with information retrieval by index words enabled by providing conversion signals in the same disc and by selecting information signals by the use of address numbers obtained by converting index wirds.
CONSTITUTION: The disc consists of information-signal recording part 1 and conversion-signal recording part 2, and part 2 of part 3 where conversion signals of index words with their lst character beginning with A are recorded, parts 4 and 5 where conversion signals of index words with their lst characters beginning with B to Z are recorded, and tracks 3' to 5' where lst-character discrimination signals are recorded. A general English dictionary contains less than fifty thousand index words, which are all stored on one disc, and an address signal can be coded into sixteen bits. Eventually, the number of tracks in part 2 becomes one hundred thirty and since each track can be recorded at a pitch of 2μm, part 2 is within the range of 0.26mm, which is much smaller in comparison with part 1.
