Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a novel fragrant composition useful as perfume having woody, fruity or flowery character, or as an almost scentless fixative, containing specific ester as an effective component.
CONSTITUTION: A composition containing α-methylene-δ-methyladipic acid ester of formula I (R1,2 are ≤ 10C alkyl), as an effective component. The character of the compound varies with the carbon number of R1 and R2; i.e. when R1 and R2 are methyl, it has acicular woody character, when they are ethyl, it is woody or fruity, when they are 3-5C, weak flowery or fruity, and when ≥ 6C, scentless. It is added to, e.g. soap, detergent, room deodorant hair shampoo, cosmetic, food, beverage, plastic, printing ink, fiber, textile, etc.
