Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a flexible polyurethane foam useful as cushioning materials, etc. and having high elasticity and excellent permanent compression set at higher temperature and humidity, by reacting specific polyhydroxy compound with an organic polyisocyanate.
CONSTITUTION: A polyhydroxy compound (A) having three or more functional groups, a molecular weight of 1,000W2,500 per hydroxyl group and containing 10W80 % of terminal primary hydroxyl groups is prepared by reacting glycerol, etc. with ethylene oxide. etc. A polyhydroxy compound (B) having 2W3 functional groups and a molecular weight of 100W800per hydroxyl group, is prepared by reacting ethylene glycol, etc with ethylene oxide, etc. The component (B) is reacted with an organic polyisocyanate, e.g. tolylene diisocyanate, etc., to give a polyurethane prepolymer, and the desired polyurethane is prepared by reacting the prepolymer with a polyol component consisting of 98W70 wt.% of (A) and 2W 30 wt.% of (B).
