Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the seam to be welded accurately and automatically at a low cost by detecting the abrupt change in the thickness of the portion in the vicinity of the seam in case at least two band-shaped rolling materials are to be connected or worked.
CONSTITUTION: The thickness of a material is detected by a thickness meter 110, which is arranged for thickness control in front of the first stand of a contious rolling machine, and the speed of the material is detected by a pulse generator 120 which is connected directly to a drive motor 121. A seam detecting device 130 used those two signals so that the deviation of the size detecting signals for each sampling is divided by the product of the moving speed and the sampling time. When the divided value becomes higher than a preset level, the passage of the point to be welded is recognized to generate judgement signals.
