Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of defects on cold-worked polygonal pipes along with a proper control of the dimension and shape of the heat treated pipe by applying the difference in the expansion coefficient between a foil of material identical to the pipe and a core tool of greater expansion coefficient which both are arranged thereinside in heat-treating the pipe for stress removal. CONSTITUTION:Inside a pipe 1 to be heat-treated, a foil-like sheet made of material identical in quality or expansion coefficient identical to the pipe 1 is provided and in such manner that one end thereof is connected to the other end along te axis of thereof. A core tool 3 made of material of greater expansion coefficient than the pipe is inserted into the pipe 1 and the sheet 2. A pin 4 is run trough a hole 5 on the pipe 1 and screwed down into the core tool 3. The core tool 3 is put to the sheet 2 at the corner section while the corner section of the pipe 1 is expanded to a high temperature finish size and then fixed. The pipe is retained for a long period of time under such a condition. In this manner, it is finished into a polygonal pipe with a desired shape and size free from defect at a high accuracy.
