Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce noises due to air flow caused by the cooling fan of a rotary machine when the machine runs rapidly, by enabling the change in the distance between the vanes of the cooling fan and the casing of the rotary machine.
CONSTITUTION: The vanes 31 of the cooling fan can be moved along a rotor shaft 21 to change the distance between the vanes of the fan and the casing of the rotary machine. In the slow revolution of the machine, the quantities of cooling wind and noises are equal to those in conventional cases. In the rapid revolution of the machine, the quantity of cooling wind which would be increased to an unnecessary degree for cooling the machine in proprotional to its rotational frequency in conventional cases is decreased to a degree which is neither excessive nor insufficient for cooling the machine, thereby reducing the noises. The purpose is thus attained without using a complicated mechanism but simply by utilizing the motion of cooling air flow.
