NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic SF-2077. White needle crystals. Melting point: 130W 131°C. Elementary analysis: C, 59.20%; H, 9.18%; N, 3.69%; D, 27.93%. Specific rotatory power: [α]D24+6.2° (C=1, methanol). Solubility: Soluble in methanol, ethanol, and n-butanol; insoluble in water and acetone. Color reactions: Positive to potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid; negative to ninhydrin, silver nitrate, and ferric chloride.
USE: Antibacterials effective against Gram-positive bacteria and molds, useful as medicines or agricultural and horticultural bactericides.
PROCESS: Streptomyces SF-2077 strain (FERM-P No.4750) is cultured in a liquid medium under aerobic conditions. The desired substance is adsorbed from the culture filtrate by active carbon, eluted with hydrous acetone, and purified to give the substance SF-2077.
