Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent scales from adhering to a surface of an inner wall of a polymerization tank by carrying out polymerization in the presence of 1-hydroxyethane- 1,1-diphoshate or water-soluble alkali metal salt thereof.
CONSTITUTION: When highly reactive monomers are polymerized in a polymerization tank by solution polymerization, suspension polymerization, and emulsion polymerization, 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphate or a water-soluble alkali metal salt thereof is added thereof. The examples of the tank materials which are used effectively are materials whose main component is iron such as stainless steel and glass-lined surface. The examples of monomers are dienes, vinyl holides, vinyl esters, monomers for formaldehyde resin, etc. The reaction is carried out preferably in a non-aqueous solution.
