Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a copper coated Al alloy product with high strength and good corrosion resistance by a method wherein a room temperature aging Al alloy article is subjected to solid solution treatment by heating during copper coating carried out by coating copper halide or a mixture containing the same.
CONSTITUTION: To a portion of an article comprising a room temperature aging Al alloy of which solid solution treatment temperature is 420W500°C, e.g., an Al alloy wire contacted with copper at least during use, copper halide or a mixture containing the same is coated. Fur example, after coating vaseline or the like, a powder such as CuCl or the like is scattered or a molten mixture of CuCl - NaCl - AlCl3 or the like is coated. After coating, a copper sub-coating is applied by heating to 420W500°C and a copper layer is applied over the said sub-coating by a conventional electroplating method. By this method, because the solid solution treatment of an Al alloy article is carried out by heating during copper coating, other solid solution treatment procedure can be omitted.
