Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a sex attractant of insects, in high yield, by a novel process comprising successive reactions of a cuprous halide compound, a lithium halide, an alkyl Grignard compound, acetylene, and an alcohol derivative.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III, e.g. cis-7-dodecen-1-ol acetate, is prepared by adding (a) a cuprous halide compound such as cuprous bromide dimethylsulfide complex, (b) an alkyl Grignard compound of formula I (R is alkyl; X is halogen), (c) acetylene, (d) pref. tri-valent phosphorus compound, and (e) an alcohol derivative of formula II (R' is R or alkylcarbonyl; Y is alkylene, etc.; Z is X or halogenoid), e.g. 6-iodo-1-hexanol acetate, successively in a single reaction vessel and made to react at -70°C to room temperature in an inert gas stream.
EFFECT: The compound is obtained from an industrially available raw material using a single reaction vessel.
