Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An 8,9-epoxy-geldanamycin shown by the formula I.
USE: For use as an antitumor agent or a synthetic derivative for other derivatives. Usable in the form of oral and nonoral administration. A daily dose for an adult is preferably 1W40mg/kg in nonoral administration and 2W50mg/kg in oral administration. Besides, available as a drug for a veterinary.
PROCESS: The double bond at 8 and 9 position of the compound shown by the formula II is epoxidized by an oxidizing agent to give the compound shown by the formula I. The epoxidation is carried out in an organic solvent, e.g., chloroform, etc. in the presence of an oxidizing agent, e.g., peracetic acid, perbenzoic acid, etc. at a temperature range from room temperature to boiling temperature. When an organic peroxide is used as the oxydizing agent, the ratio of the molar aequivalent of the peroxide to the compound shown by the formula II is preferably 1.1W1.5.
