Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a vinyl chloride polymer of improved quality at an improved rate of operation, by preventing scale deposition by the use of a polymerization kettle of which the area which is liable to suffer from scale deposition is coated with a polymer of a nitrile group-containing unsaturated monomer.
CONSTITUTION: In polymerizing a vinyl chloride monomer or a vinyl chloride-based monomer mixture in an aqueous medium, a polymerization kettle of which the area which is liable to suffer from scale deposition is coated with a member selected from the group consisting of a polymer having at least 20mol% of a nitrile group-containing unsaturated monomer unit, a composition containing said polymer, and a molded material thereof is employed. Thereby, scale deposition is prevented and the production capacity is increased, since the lowering of the heat-removal capacity of the tank is alleviated and the removal of scales is not required. At the same time, the polymer quality also is improved because the contamination of scales in to the polymer product is eliminated.
