Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain solidified asphalt having small radioactive substance leakage by retaining the temperature of melt mixture coming out of evaporator in a fixed temperature range in the process in which enriched radioactive waste water and molten asphalt are heated, mixed, concentrated, and then cooled for solidification.
CONSTITUTION: The enriched radioactive waste water 1 and the molten asphalt 8 are introduced into the evaporator 7 where they are heated, mixed, concentrated, and discharged from the outlet 17 to the container 18 for cooling and solidification. In this case, the temperature of the melt mixture effluent is detected by the infrared radiation pyrometer 19, and then according to the variation in the temperature, the amount of the enriched radioactive waste water 1 to be sent by the supply pump 4 is requlated by operating the change gear 20 and at the same time the heat source 25 of the heating mechanism 15 for the heat medium 14 is regulated in order to retain the temperature of the melt mixture at a fixed temperature between approx. 140°C and 190°C. Thus, a homogeneous solidified asphalt with a large specific weight can be obtained.
