Abstract

PURPOSE: A flame-resistant composition having improved water resistance and viscosity, which does not flow on heating, and cures into a tough cured product at high temperatures, which composition including halogenated hydrocarbons and a phosphate ester.
CONSTITUTION: A composition comprising 15W40pts.wt. of halogenated hydrocarbons having a halogen content of at least 50% and an average molecular weight of at most 1500; 5W20pts.wt. of a halogen-containing high-molecular compound; 10W40pts.wt. of a phosphate ester; 4W120pts.wt. of a water-soluble inorganic compound containing water of hydration; and 3W10pts.wt. of an inorganic fiber. As the halogenated hydrocarbon, chlorinated paraffin is particulary preferred. Preferable examples of the halogen-containing high-molecular compound include polyvinyl chloride, polychloroprene and chlorinated polyethylene provided that these polymers have an average molecular weight of at least 5×104. As the water- soluble inorganic compound containing water of hydration, aluminum hydroxide is preferably used.
