Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure accurately and simply the length between a pair of edge lines portion of a black object by scanning it with a reflex type photoelectric-switch which uses the light-emitting diode of a light in the red light area as a light source to detect the edge lines portion, and counting the timing pulse based on the detection signal.
CONSTITUTION: To measure the dimension W between two edge lines portions 13a and 13b of a black rubber object 15a, a reflex type photoelectric-switch 10 is placed at the distance L' from where it detects the shoulder surface 14 of the rubber but not the tapered surface 15a and 15b, and attached to a holder 16. A ball screw 20 is rotated by a rotary encoder 24, and the amount of movement of a nut 19 meshed with the screw is measured by counting the timing pulse. Since using a red light or a light in the red light area permits an edge of a black object to be accurately detected, an accurate measurement can be obtained.
