Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the yield of tartrazine, by mixing an acetosuccinate with a diazonium compound of sulfanilic acid in an aqueous medium dbove a specific initial concetration, and by reacting them with an alkali.
CONSTITUTION: An acetosuccinate is mixed with a diazonium compound (D) of sulfanilic acid in an aqueous medium to give an initial concentration of D ≥7 wt%, preferably 7W30 wt%, and then reacted with an alkali to form tartrazine. In case the compound D is in the form of a salt, the amount to be used is based on the structure of the formula.
