Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain a high-accuracy rotation characteristic for a rotary device supported by fluid bearings, by combining a magnetic seal based on a magnetic lubricating fluid, with spiral groove fluid bearings or the like which have act for pressural feed in the axial direction and are asymmetrically provided.
CONSTITUTION: Radial spiral grooves 14, 15 are symmetrically provided so that they extend vertically on a fixed shaft 10 supported on a base 11 and rotatably engaged in a housing 12. The tip of the fixed shaft 10 is provided as a spherical pivot bearing 13. A permanent magnet 16 for a magnetic seal is provided near the opening of the housing 12 and retained by a casing 17. The clearances 18, 19 between the housing 12 and the vertical spiral grooves 14, 15 of the fixed shaft 10 are made different from each other. The upper clearance 19 is made smaller than the lower one 18 so that the downward pressural feeding force to a magnetic fluid 20 enclosed in the upper clearance 19 is stronger than the upward pressural feeding force to the magnetic fluid 20 in the lower clearance 18.
