Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve higher workability and accuracy of connection by slippably holding optical fiber terminals, contacting them to a pressure-contacting plate to align them at the specified spacing then heating and fusion-bonding these. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 8A1-8A4 are inserted between the upper roller 4a1 and lower rollers 4a2, 4a3 of one moving table 1A and paralleled by the concave grooves 3. Similarly, optical fibers 8B1-8B4 are also set between the rollers 4b1 and rollers 4b2, 4b3 of the other moving table 1B and the respective terminals 8a1- 8a4 and 8b1-8b4 are opposed. Thence, the moving tables 1A, 1B are moved in the arrow 0, 0' directions by the mechanism not illustrated to let the respective terminals 8a1-8a4 and 8b1-8b4 contact both the surfaces of a pressure-contacting plate 5 as shown by the imaginary lines so that these are set at the specified spacing. Thence, the feed of the respective moving tables 1A, 1B is once stopped, the pressure-contacting plate 5 is removed and again the moving tables are advanced to butt the respective terminals.
